Health in Mind

Health in Mind Health in Mind promotes positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland. We’ve been promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in Scotland since 1982.

Your local mental health charity, working in Edinburgh, the Lothians, the Borders and beyond to make sure people have the mental health support they need, where, when and how they need it. Our hopeful and caring approach supports and empowers each person to live the life they want to live. We offer flexibility and choice through our range of services and support people to make changes and improve

their quality of life. People who use our services also help to shape them, ensuring that we continue to identify and meet need using creative and innovative approaches. Our approach is inclusive and we are keen to break down the barriers which prevent people from accessing resources that could improve their mental health and wellbeing. We offer a range of support across Scotland. Full details can be found on our website. Our training courses develop knowledge, skills confidence and understanding about mental health and wellbeing. We offer a range of nationally recognised, certificated courses including Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid and ASIST. We specialise in Trauma Training and offer training at three levels. We also offer in-house and bespoke training in the workplace. Further information about our training courses can be found on our website or by contact our training team. We often hear 'triggers' talked about casually, but they can be very frightening - and at big arts festivals like the ones in Edinburgh just now, there can be a lot of triggering situations which might send you spiralling.

The good news is, even if you're aware of things that can kick off strong emotional responses or trigger mental health issues, there are ways to manage that - and it doesn't always have to mean avoiding them entirely. Being prepared and giving yourself space to heal can make a huge difference!

Being in Edinburgh during the Festivals can be overwhelming. If you feel panic rising in a press of people, here are some simple ways to manage your feelings until you can get somewhere quieter.

🗺️Plan your routes to avoid busy areas as much as possible
👁️ Focus on one thing you can see, hear or feel
😮‍💨 Take deep, slow, calming breaths, and count in and out
🧘🏾 Give yourself breaks, and find quiet times in the day to recharge

Join us in saying a huge well done and thank you to who has just completed her epic cycle from Tipperary to Edinburgh in support of Health in Mind. Together with her support team (Mam and Dad), she has cycled over 600KM and raised an incredible £2,4,58.00!

Huge thanks also to everyone who has followed her journey, donated to her fundraising page and encouraged her along the way.

Siobhan, you're a Health in Mind Hero and we're so grateful for everything you've done to support Health in Mind.

It really IS a long way from Tipperary...

With a month to go until the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, here are 5 reasons why you should join us:

1. Last year almost 9,000 people took part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk, raising over £1.5 million for charity!
2. The first Edinburgh Kiltwalk took place in 2016 and participation has grown by almost 5X since the first event.
3. There are three separate distances to choose from, all taking place on Sunday 13th September.
4. THERE ARE DOGS! Yes, if you've ever wanted to see kilted canines, you're in for a treat.
5. Health in Mind have free places for anyone who'd like to fundraise for us, and the option to join our team and walk the route together!

And possibly the most compelling reason, is that you'll be supporting your local mental health and wellbeing charity to be there for people if, when and how they need us.
