With just over a week to go until our panel discussion, it‘s time to introduce our next panelist. Joining Jemma Neville and Fraser Parkinson is… our very own historian and researcher, Dr Julian Grant!

Julian has been hard at work over the past months collecting stories and memories from within the Leith St. Andrew‘s community.

The entire exhibition is only possible because of his work, so make sure to set aside some time to visit the exhibition and find out what he uncovered.

If you‘d like more information about the exhibition, or you‘d like to know how to book your FREE ticket for the panel discussion, head on over to leithstandrewstrust.org

The opening date of our exhibition The Heart of a Community is inching closer! In case you missed it, Leith St Andrew‘s Trust has been busy organising a local history exhibition which you‘ll be able to visit between the 21st of February (Friday!) and the 2nd of March. Full details can be found on our website leithstandrewstrust.org — where you‘ll also find information about our special panel discussion.

The panel discussion will take place on Wednesday, 26th February, and we are delighted to share with you the second panelist: Fraser Parkinson.
If you‘d like to join, you‘ll be happy to hear that the event is entirely free to attend, we just ask you to register for a free ticket via Eventbrite. The relevant links can all be found on our website.

About our panelist:

Fraser Parkinson puts his passion for local history into action through his role as administrator of the Spirit of Leithers and Lost Edinburgh pages. His fingerprints are all over several wonderful heritage projects and initiatives, including the Leith Rediscovered interactive map and a number of local history books.

When he is not gathering old photographs of Edinburgh and sharing them with audiences near and far, Fraser works full-time as an accredited tourist guide working in Edinburgh and across Scotland. He has a background in youth and community work, including five years as a project worker at the Citadel Youth Centre here in Leith.

Our exhibition The Heart of a Community opens soon, but in exactly 14 days we have a very special event planned for you!

Join us at Leith St. Andrew‘s church on Wednesday, the 26th of February for a panel debate featuring some very exciting guests.

The event is FREE to attend but we do ask that you register for a ticket beforehand. You can do so via Eventbrite, and all the necessary information can be found on leithstandrewstrust.org

We will be introducing the panel members over the next few days, and up first we have: Jemma Neville!

Jemma Neville is an award-winning writer and journalist. Her debut book, Constitution Street, finding hope in an age of anxiety (published by 404 Ink), told the interconnecting, real-life stories of neighbours on one diverse street in Leith within the narrative structure of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Combining memoir, social history and activism, it won The Creative Edinburgh Award 2019. She has worked in a range of roles connecting the global and the local and has written for The Guardian, The Times and The National Trust for Scotland Members Magazine.

Mark your calendars, because you’re invited!

Leith St Andrew’s Trust is very excited to announce a special history exhibition of Leith St Andrew’s Parish church. We have been working closely with a local historian who has accumulated a wealth of historical information and fun facts through a collaborative effort with the church, congregation, and local community in the form of detailed archival document and photographic research, intriguing oral histories and much more. We will culminate the 4-month project with an event at the church which is free and promises a wealth of fascinating, local history.

Join us on the 21st of February from 6-9pm for the opening night, peruse the exhibition at your leisure between 12-3pm on Sat 22nd/Sun 23rd Feb as well as Sat 1st/Sun 2nd Mar, or join us for a special panel discussion on Wednesday 26th of February from 7-9pm.
While it’s all completely free to attend, we do ask that you register for a free ticket to the panel debate if you’d like to attend. You can register via Eventbrite—simply head over to leithstandrewstrust.org where you will find more information about the exhibition as well as all relevant links.

If you can, please share information about the exhibition widely across your network! We look forward to seeing you there and delving into the many stories and memories that make Leith St. Andrew’s such a special place.
