FASD cannot continue to be overlooked. Inclusion, equity, and access to appropriate support must extend to everyone affected by neurodevelopmental differences, including those with FASD. It is also important to remember the experiences of adoptees and others with care experience, amongst whom prevalence of FASD is high. One study found 75% of children presenting for adoption medicals had a documented history of prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE). Adoption UK fully supports calls for FASD to be recognised and included in all discussions around neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health.
