As the school term comes to an end, many families are preparing for a change in routine. 🌞

For some neurodivergent children and young people, transitions like this can feel significant, as routine often plays an important role in feeling settled and regulated. While school can be both positive and challenging in different ways, the move into unstructured time can also bring uncertainty and take time to adjust to.

During the school year, the environment itself can sometimes create barriers such as sensory overload, routine changes and unclear expectations. When systems are built around a “one size fits all” approach, some young people can end up spending more energy coping with the environment than engaging with learning.

Thinking ahead about what helps your young person feel grounded can make this transition into the holidays feel a little easier for everyone involved. Visit www.mindroom.org for further guidance.

We’re always interested in hearing what has made a real difference for families, carers and neurodivergent people. 💬

It might be something small like a piece of advice at the right time or a simple adjustment that made everyday life feel more manageable. These moments can often have a bigger impact than we realise.

If Mindroom has supported you or your family in any way, we’d really love to hear about your experience. What helped, what changed, and what difference it made for you? Your stories also help others feel less alone in their own journey.

If you’d be happy to share, please get in touch or visit www.mindroom.org/get-involved/share-your-story/.

At Mindroom, we know many employers want to better support neurodivergent staff but aren’t always sure what that looks like in practice or where to begin.

That’s why we’ve put together a free Practical Guide to Neuroinclusion. A simple resource with ideas and first steps that can help build understanding, reduce barriers and create a more supportive working environment.

It’s designed to be an easy starting point, whether you’re just beginning to think about neuroinclusion or looking to develop your approach further.

This week is Carers Week 💚

At Mindroom, we know that being a parent or carer of a neurodivergent child or young person can involve a lot more than people often see from the outside.

It can mean navigating systems that don’t always feel easy to access, advocating in education or healthcare and trying to understand what support will make the biggest difference.

We also know that no two caring journeys are the same. Every family’s experience is shaped by individual needs and circumstances.

Our work focuses on practical support and shared understanding. Visit www.mindroom.org/help-and-support/parents-and-carers/ to see how we can help.

Accessing healthcare can sometimes create unexpected barriers for neurodivergent people. 📞

We often hear that phone-only appointments, long waits and needing to explain complex needs quickly can feel overwhelming or inaccessible.

These challenges can make it harder for people to seek support when they need it most. Small changes in how services are designed and delivered can make a real difference to accessibility.

At Mindroom, we continue to work with families and partners to highlight these barriers and support more inclusive approaches to accessing care, including:
• Promoting clearer and more accessible communication
• Encouraging flexible ways to access appointments and support
• Sharing lived experiences to help services better understand neurodivergent needs
• Supporting families to navigate healthcare and advocacy systems

Creating accessible services starts with listening to the experiences of the people using them.

“I honestly believe I wouldn't have improved so much if it wasn't for the support from my worker. They made me feel more confident, capable and comfortable with being my true authentic self.” 💬

We really appreciate hearing feedback like this, and comments like these mean a lot to the team.

So often, what makes the biggest difference is having someone who takes the time to listen properly, notice strengths, and help build confidence along the way. Those small moments of support can have a lasting impact on how someone feels about themselves and what they feel able to do.

We’d love to hear from others too, if Mindroom or any support has made a difference for you or your family, what did that look like in your experience?

Huge congratulations and thanks to the team from Edinburgh Dental Specialists who took on the 2026 Edinburgh Marathon Festival Hairy Haggis Team Relay on Sunday, 24 May in support of Mindroom! 🏃‍♀️

The EDS Sprinters, Chelsea, Suze, Bruce and Louise completed the 26.2-mile run in 4 hours 23 minutes.

So far, they have raised an amazing £780 for the charity.

The Team said, “We wanted to fundraise for Mindroom because there is still not enough support or awareness of neurodiversity. Many children and families face barriers when trying to access the help they need. By raising money, we can help provide better support, increase understanding, and work towards a world where no child or family feels excluded or unsupported.”

This week we’re looking forward to being part of the Children in Scotland Annual Conference 2026 in Glasgow! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Members of Neuropoint, Mindroom’s Rights & Participation group for neurodivergent young people, will be delivering their workshop “It Takes All Kinds of Minds”, sharing insight, lived experience and practical ideas to support greater inclusion and understanding.

We’re proud to support Neuropoint members in bringing their voices to this important conversation and excited to be part of two days of learning, collaboration and ideas for change.

If you’re attending the conference, we’d love to see you there! We look forward to sharing more from the event afterwards.
