SCOTLAND: The Big Picture's vision is of a vast network of rewilded land and water across Scotland, where wildlife flourishes and people thrive. We work to drive the recovery of nature across Scotland through rewilding, in response to the growing climate and biodiversity crises.

Recently, we welcomed a group from Michigan State University to the Scottish Highlands for a three-day study tour.

The group explored several sites in our – from guided visits to Ballintean Lodges and Lynbreck Croft, to hands-on volunteering sessions at Anagach Woods and Laikenbuie Ecology Trust – helping to remove non-native trees and restore habitats for wildlife.

They also learned about the return of missing species and visited Highland Wildlife Park to hear about Scottish wildcat conservation and pine hoverfly reintroductions.

Michigan State University's itinerary was tailored to their interests and learning objectives – and yours can be too.

Tell us your goals, and we'll work with you to design a bespoke study tour centred around the most relevant projects, experts and experiences.

A new National Geographic Traveller UK article explores rewilding success stories from around the world and the role tourism can play in helping nature recover.

Featuring insights from our CEO, Lisa Chilton, it also highlights Ballintean Lodges, home to our Cairngorms Rewilding Journey (link in comments 👇).

Choosing to visit places where nature is recovering can leave those places better off – helping wildlife and communities thrive while offering richer, more meaningful experiences in return.

The article is well worth a read 👉

Once-exploited environments are being brought back from the brink by rewilding — and tourism is playing a role in sustaining this ecological regeneration.

As a charity, we’ve been for over five years, and 2025 was no exception.

We released 11 new films, welcomed over 200 people to our Big Picture Live events and expanded our training and immersive experiences to drive support for rewilding.

We also collaborated with more partners than ever to commit land and water to rewilding. Our signed its 100th partner, our Loch Abar Mòr nature restoration partnership moved from planning to delivery, and more than £58,000 in grants was distributed through our Rewilding Fund.

These highlights – and many more – are featured in our latest Impact Report.

‘𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴.’

That's how one guest summed up their experience on our Cairngorms Rewilding Journey last month.

One of the highlights was a visit to Mar Lodge Estate National Nature Reserve NTS, where guests enjoyed blue skies and sweeping views. Across this vast Highland landscape, native pinewoods and mountain woodland are being restored, creating space for nature to thrive once again.

This was just one of the inspiring rewilding projects explored during our 5-night journey through the Cairngorms, accompanied by expert guides and a small group of like-minded travellers.

If you'd like to experience rewilding landscapes for yourself – and perhaps come away with a few new perspectives of your own – our Cairngorms Rewilding Journey is running again from 3–8 October.

A thought for : The Scottish Government has committed to protect 30% of our seas by 2030. But 92% of Scottish inshore waters are still not protected from damaging bottom trawling.

We all depend on healthy seas for climate stability, biodiversity and wellbeing – so we all have a part to play in protecting them.

A group of young people in the fishing village of Ullapool – the Ullapool Sea Savers – are doing exactly that: protecting their marine environment by speaking up and changing attitudes in their community.

Happy ! This year focuses on climate change – and rewilding must be part of the response.

The past 11 years have been the 11 hottest on record and the world is expected to temporarily exceed 1.5°C of warming – the threshold set by the Paris Agreement.

Responding to that challenge means cutting emissions, accelerating the transition to renewable energy and restoring nature.

Healthy peatlands, thriving native woodlands and recovering seas all lock away carbon while supporting biodiversity and resilient communities. But when these ecosystems are degraded, they can't do those jobs effectively.

As one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth, Scotland has more to gain than most from restoring nature at scale.

How we seize that opportunity is the focus of our ebook, 𝘚𝘊𝘖𝘛𝘓𝘈𝘕𝘋: 𝘈 𝘙𝘦𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 – free to download when you join our Big Picture Community:
