ACS has followed the journey of Jenny Thompson and her world cricket tour closely in recent times. Wonderful to hear from former Queensland wicketkeeper and current Victorian Head of Male Cricket Wade Seccombe at our recent Cricket Season Launch Luncheon held at William Angliss TAFE. Some great insights on Queensland's first Shield win, Wade's position at Cricket Victoria and his opinion on Captaincy and leadership. Thanks also to current Victorian fast bowler Cam McClure for attending and giving us an update on his cricketing journey to date.

For our Cricket Season Launch luncheon we are pleased to welcome Wade Seccombe, Head of Male Cricket at Cricket Victoria.

Wade brings extensive experience across Australian cricket as a respected coach, high-performance leader and former first-class cricketer. He has most recently contributed to Victorian cricket as T20 Performance Manager for the Melbourne Renegades, supporting high-performance strategy, coaching and recruitment.

Before moving to Victoria, Wade built a strong career with Queensland Cricket. A former wicketkeeper-batter, he played 115 first-class matches before moving into coaching. He was appointed Queensland Bulls Head Coach in 2017 and later coached Brisbane Heat to consecutive BBL finals campaigns, including the BBL|13 championship.

In his new role, Wade will lead Cricket Victoria’s male high-performance program, working closely with players, coaches and staff across Victoria’s Sheffield Shield, One-Day Cup and T20 programs.

Born on 30 October 1971 in Murgon, Queensland, Wade’s first-class career had him represent his home state of Queensland as a wicket-keeper. Often he was second choice behind incumbent Ian Healy, replacing him largely when the latter was on international duty. He was nevertheless regarded as a keeper of substantial skill, rated a "great keeper" by Australian captain Ricky Ponting.

Wade made his first-class debut against a touring English team at Caloundra's Roy Henzell Oval in the season of 1992–93. With Healy on Test duties, Wade remained the Bulls' first-choice gloveman throughout the 1990s and into the new century. He played in the Sheffield Shield final of 1994–95, in which Queensland claimed the trophy for the first time since the team's entry into the national competition in 1926. He toured England in 2001 as Adam Gilchrist's deputy in the Australian cricket team.

Wade retired from first-class cricket in September 2005 moving in to his next phase of coaching.
