Cytomegalovirus (or CMV), is a common virus that often goes unnoticed. But for newborns, it can have life-long consequences. In Australia, 1 in 300 babies are born with CMV, yet many pregnant women remain unaware of the risks, screening options and simple steps that can help prevent it.

Professor Lisa Hui is leading vital research to change this, by improving awareness, strengthening prevention and shaping better outcomes for mothers and babies.

With your support, her work can continue.
Together, we can spread awareness, lessen the risks of CMV and help more families come home. Donate today https://bit.ly/42uo83B

When Angela tested positive for CMV early in pregnancy, she was terrified. There were few answers — only the fear that her baby could face lifelong disability, or not make it to birth.

Angela was referred to Mercy Health and Professor Lisa Hui, where early specialist care and antiviral treatment reduced the risk of CMV transmission by up to 70%.

Today, Angela holds her baby girl, Poppy, in her arms.
“Without Mercy, and their expertise, Poppy wouldn’t be here.”

Not all stories end this way.

On 8 May, the Mercy Health Foundation Mother’s Day Lunch, proudly presented by Ecolab, brought together an inspiring community for an afternoon of powerful storytelling and shared purpose.

Guests were moved by the resilience of our parent panel – Stephanie Butera, Sarah Sprigg and Lina Avramidis – while insights from Professor Brett Manley and Dr Arun Sasi highlighted how research is transforming outcomes for the most vulnerable babies.

The event also marked the launch of Born Brave, our $1 million endowment campaign. We are deeply grateful to all who supported this milestone, especially Loan Ngo for her extraordinary generosity.

Thank you to our partners – Ecolab, Medela Australia, Aon Australia, Cleanaway and DNA Construction. Heartfelt thanks to MYLES AV Australia and Mike Tarr Photography and our many prize donors for helping bring the event to life.

An unforgettable afternoon – and a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together.

✨ Introducing our Title Sponsor ✨
We are proud to announce Ecolab as the Title Sponsor of our annual Mother’s Day Lunch.

Now known as the Mercy Health Mother’s Day Lunch presented by Ecolab, this special occasion will unveil an important fundraising campaign dedicated to strengthening and sustaining Mercy’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit — supporting the tiniest and most vulnerable babies, today and into the future.

Courtesy of Ecolab, each guest will receive a special gift, to be opened together following the announcement.

Ecolab’s generous sponsorship marks the first milestone of this campaign, helping ignite momentum and bring its vision to life. Their partnership represents the beginning of meaningful, long term impact for families who rely on the specialised care of our NICU.

We are deeply grateful to Ecolab for championing this moment and helping turn shared purpose into lasting change.

Last week, we welcomed members of the Mercy Health Giving Circle as they came together for the very first time, united by a shared commitment to improving women’s health.

It was a privilege to hear from A/Prof Emma Readman, whose insights into women’s gynaecological care sparked thoughtful conversation and reminded us why this work matters so deeply.

The Giving Circle is not simply philanthropy.

It’s connection, informed generosity, and women and allies choosing to invest together where the impact matters most. The Circle’s next step is an exciting one: coming together to decide the first women’s health project they will fund.

Is there a woman or experience in your life that has shaped how you think about women’s health? We’d love to hear from you and to welcome others who share this commitment. Visit https://www.mercyhealthfoundation.org.au/givingcircle

What a wonderful day it was at Mercy Health Foundation’s Annual Golf Day, held on Tuesday 21 April at the beautiful Kingston Heath Golf Club.

The day brought together our community of supporters, partners and friends, all united by a shared commitment to improving care, research and education for women and babies through Mercy Perinatal.

Guests heard from Professor Brett Manley, who spoke about the vital role philanthropy plays in driving research into complex pregnancy conditions such as preeclampsia and stillbirth.

Thanks to the generosity shown on and off the course, funds raised will directly support research that changes lives and offers hope to families now and into the future.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success.
