Just months before giving birth to her first baby, Beatrice's local clinic was closed due to flood damage. She had no choice but to travel hours away to the antenatal shelter in Simulemba, and remain there until her baby was born.

With unreliable water taps and just a few bathrooms for over 20 women, even basic hygiene was a daily struggle.

Playing netball with other women was more than a game, it was a chance to forget, for a while, the challenges of life without clean water.

We won’t stop working until every mother can give birth in a clean health centre, with the basics like clean water.
