Experimenta

Experimenta Experimenta is Australia’s leading organisation dedicated to commissioning, exhibiting and touring contemporary art driven by technology.

Experimenta is the future of art, presenting work that is poised on the intersect between art, science and technology. Since its inception in 1986, Experimenta has developed a worldwide reputation for fostering creativity that extends the aesthetic, conceptual and experiential potential of art forms. The organisation’s programs are quite unlike anything else and redefine what art can be, embracing

the practices of bio art, creative coding, robotics, data-driven works, virtual and augmented reality. Experimenta commissions some of the world’s most adventurous contemporary artists working on the periphery of convention, working with technology in unexpected and original ways. It presents major touring exhibitions, partnerships with like-minded provocateurs, holds talks and symposiums, develops public programs and advocates on behalf of the sector. Working with established and emerging artists, Experimenta provides a vital platform for unique and curious collaborations with experts in other fields (scientists, researchers, engineers, architects and technologists) realising ambitious, daring and complex projects. Experimenta is not bound by traditional artforms and brings very different people into arts practice, championing new ideas about technology, exploring the creative possibilities and unearthing emerging artforms. Experimenta presents art that cannot be experienced elsewhere, imagining the future of art and exploring unchartered pathways towards it.

Join Experimenta as we explore how new technologies can offer multi-sensory modes of experiencing screen based works. Our showcase Art, Access and Technology will feature at ACMI’s FACT 2026 Symposium, 11-12 February, where the future of arts, culture and technology are debated and shaped. See: https://experimenta.org/event/fact-acmi2026/

In this project we have been privileged to work with Ina Conradi and Mark Chavez, and develop a sensory score for haptic sensory vests to offer a multi-sensory audience experience of their animation film and audio composition (from Tate Chavez), Moirai: Thread of Life, a work that features in the Experimenta Emergence 2025-2027 national touring exhibition. This research and development phase has expanded thinking on the development and presentation of audio-visual screen works, and allows for new ways to present and engage with media art in exhibition and event contexts for broad audiences of all abilities.

This project is part of the 2026 Experimenta 40 Program, celebrating Experimenta’s 40th year championing experimental work, and has come to fruition through the creativity and dedication of the Experimenta team, ACMI team, Ina and Mark, Tate and the team at The Newmarket Collective.
