136 meals. One powerful community.

This week, Kiwanis San Diego and Kiwanian Jeremy Alexander's Army San Diego team partnered with Youth Assistance Coalition SD () to donate, prepare, and serve 136 dinners — plus SNOW CONES — to youth experiencing homelessness at YAC's Logan Heights community center.

After dinner, volunteers stayed to connect and encourage, because every young person there has a story worth hearing.

Thank you to YAC and Executive Director Heather Lezon ( ) for the incredible work you do for San Diego's youth.

From finalist to INDISPENSABLE WINNER! 🏆

Kiwanis San Diego is honored to celebrate our very own Karina Sousa as an inaugural 2026 San Diego Business Journal INDISPENSABLE WINNER, featured in this week’s San Diego Business Journal issue.

For 17 years, Karina Sousa has poured her heart into Kiwanis, working tirelessly to uplift youth and create opportunities for the next generation. Her impact extends throughout our Club, Foundation, and Laurels for Leaders, as well as across numerous other non-profit boards, her family’s legal business, and the San Diego real estate community.

No matter the role, Karina leads with purpose, brings people together, and turns ideas into action.

Congratulations, Karina, on this well deserved honor. Your Kiwanis family is grateful for your leadership, heart, and extraordinary commitment to our community. 💙

Huge kudos to National University President Dr. Mark Milliron () for an incredible double-duty day of community impact last week!

After sharing his inspiring personal story and powerful perspective on today’s evolving educational landscape at our Kiwanis Club of San Diego luncheon, Dr. Milliron took the stage again just a few hours later to emcee National University’s nationwide Alumni Speaker Series featuring SD Sports Medicine CEO Dr. Lee Rice. 😀❣️

At Kiwanis, Dr. Milliron used memorable stories from his own life, including a childhood fascination with a Nissan 280Z parked in a neighbor’s driveway, to drive home the growing need for flexibility in higher education. His message focused on the increasing population of “ANDers”: parents, working professionals, veterans, and career changers for whom being a student is just one part of a full and multifaceted life.

When nearly 20% of the room raised their hands as National University alumni, the message resonated loud and clear.

Thank you, Dr. Milliron, for an inspiring and memorable luncheon and for demonstrating what a true day of community service looks like! 💙

Four young adults walked into Just in Time for Foster Youth's Distribution Warehouse on Saturday and walked out with the furnishings for their first “home of their own”. 🏡

Our Kiwanis Club of San Diego team showed up as their shoppers, movers and drivers, transporting furniture, silverware, artwork and room-by-room essentials into the new residences. JIT’s MY FIRST HOME program allows the youth to select what makes their new “first home” feel like their own during a pivotal life transition.

San Diego KiwanisClub and Foundation also recently granted Just in Time’s CHANGING LANES program funds for 150 youth to achieve self-transportation independence in order to expand their employment location opportunities.💙

Hairnets, aprons, and heart. 🌯💙

On June 16th, members and leaders from our sponsored Madison High School Key Club () prepared and served dinner at Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego to families whose children are receiving critical medical care Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego across the street.

The evening also included a special moment – a RIBBON-CUTTING at the Family Room now named in grateful recognition of San Diego Kiwanis Club/Foundation’s years of support. 🎀

To the 100+ families we served that evening — you are not alone. 💙

We are proud to celebrate our very own, Karina Sousa, as a 2026 San Diego Business Journal Indispensables Finalist.

For 17 years, Karina has served Kiwanis San Diego with heart, humility, and unwavering dedication to our mission and the next generation.

Her impact is woven into nearly every part of our club, and Kiwanis would not be what it is today without her. We even created the “Do All Be All” Award in her honor, a recognition she has received for the past two years for the countless ways she shows up, steps in, and makes things happen.

Congratulations, Karina. You are truly indispensable!
