The Butterfly Project

The Butterfly Project The Butterfly Project is a call to action through education, the arts and memorial making.

By painting ceramic butterflies, which are displayed as symbols of resilience and hope, participants remember the 1.5 million children killed during the Holocaust. The Butterfly Project is a call to action through the arts, using the lessons of the Holocaust to educate about the dangers of hatred and bigotry through the painting of ceramic butterflies, permanently displayed around the world to memorialize each of the 1.5 million children who perished in the Holocaust.

On Yom HaShoah, I stand before "For the Children”, Dale Chihuly's only Holocaust memorial, outside The Hampton Synagogue.

Dedicated to the 1.5 million Jewish children murdered during the Shoah, this memorial is a reminder that silence in the face of evil is not neutrality. It is indifference.

"That deafening silence is a shameful monument to moral indifference in the face of lurking disaster."
We remember. We will not be silent.

Coming soon to Grossmont Community College, Americans and the Holocaust: A Traveling Exhibition.

Grossmont Community College Library is one of just 50 libraries nationwide selected to host Americans and the Holocaust, a powerful traveling exhibition presented by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the American Library Association, and sponsored by Legacy of Light Goldberg Institute for Holocaust Education.

Through compelling research and primary sources this exhibition examines how complex forces — the Great Depression, isolationism, xenophobia, racism, and antisemitism — shaped attitudes and decisions made by the US government, media, organizations, and individuals before and during the Holocaust.

Visitors will encounter stories that challenge common assumptions and highlight the difficult choices people faced and the moments when some took extraordinary risks to help others.

This thought-provoking experience will be open to San Diegans from April 14 to May 21, be sure to schedule a visit before it’s gone!

On this day in 2005, the United Nations General Assembly designated January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

This occasion commemorates the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on this date 81 years ago as a way to remember the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the 5 million other victims of N**i persecution.

On this day, we take time to remember the atrocities of the Holocaust and the importance of continuing to share the lessons of the past with today's youth and future generations.

On June 10, 1942, the village of Lidice in Czechoslovakia woke up to the sound of trucks.
N**i soldiers surrounded the village. Men were separated from women. Women were separated from children. Families were torn apart in the village square while soldiers screamed orders in German.
The 173 men and boys over age 16 were lined up against a barn wall and shot.
The 184 women were loaded onto trucks and sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp.
And the 82 children-ranging from infants to teenagers-were taken away.
