Sometimes, stability begins with having someone willing to help you navigate the process.

In 2025, a man in his early 60s reached out to Anoka County Community Action Program after losing his job and falling behind on rent and utilities. He no longer had health insurance and wasn’t sure where to start.

Through ACCAP’s Senior Outreach and Crisis Assistance programs, he was connected to subsidized housing, Energy Assistance, MNsure, moving support, and other critical community resources.

Today, he says he feels happier, more stable, and less overwhelmed in his new environment.

Community Action is about more than meeting immediate needs. It’s about helping people move from crisis to stability — and creating pathways toward long-term self-sufficiency.

Across Minnesota, Community Action Agencies are delivering local solutions that create real impact for individuals, families, and communities.

Head Start is more than early childhood education — it’s a foundation for long-term success for both children and families.

Across Minnesota, Head Start programs provide comprehensive support including:
• early learning opportunities
• nutrition and health services
• school readiness support
• family engagement resources

Access to high-quality early childhood education helps children build strong academic, emotional, and social foundations during some of the most important developmental years of life.
At the same time, Head Start helps parents pursue employment, education, and long-term economic stability knowing their children are supported in a safe, enriching environment.
When we invest in children and working families, we invest in stronger communities for generations to come.

Families are the foundation of every community.
On this International Day of Families, we recognize the parents, caregivers, grandparents, and support systems working every day to create stability, opportunity, and a better future for the next generation.
Strong families thrive when communities invest in:
• stable housing
• accessible childcare
• nutritious food
• quality early childhood education
• transportation and employment support
• community connection
Across Minnesota, Community Action Agencies work alongside families to help address immediate challenges while creating pathways toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Because when families are supported, entire communities grow stronger.

Community impact starts with meeting basic needs—and that’s exactly what Peoples Church of Bemidji is doing every day.

Through daily meals and emergency shelter, they serve individuals and families who would otherwise go without—reminding us that food and shelter are where healing begins.

How can families make plans for the future, when the biggest problem facing them right now is whether they will have food to eat or a bed to sleep in?

We’re honored to support their work!🎉
