MSSA is a professional association representing a unique cross section of non-profit and for-profit agencies from the public and private sector. Our membership includes anyone concerned about the human service
system—social workers, case aides, public health nurses, managers, child support offices, financial workers, county commissioners, probation officers and more. With over 3700 individual members and 161 agency members, we cover the entire health and human service field across Minnesota. MSSA provides health and human service professionals with the tools to help them serve their clients better, through education, advocacy, and other member benefits. MSSA was established in 1893 as the Minnesota Conference on Corrections and Charities to share best practices from Minnesota and other states to improve care to clients.

For $25, professionals can earn up to 5 CEUs, including 1.25 CE hours of Ethics content, with lunch included. Student members attend free.

The day will focus on issues that come up across social services and behavioral health work:

✅Trauma-informed mental health care: Examine how trauma affects client engagement, diagnosis, and treatment—and how trauma-informed practice connects with ethics.

✅Disability resources: Learn about community supports and person-centered approaches to helping people with disabilities.

✅Basic-needs resources: Hear from local leaders working in family support, transportation, food security, and housing, with time for audience Q&A.

✅Substance use and justice system response: Explore how justice system involvement can become an opportunity for early intervention, treatment engagement, and recovery support.

The deadline to RSVP for a complimentary lunch at MSSA’s Region 3 Legislative Listening Session is today, Wednesday, September 30.

There’s still time to submit a session proposal for MSSA’s 2027 Annual Conference & Expo or Virtual Conference. The proposal deadline has been extended to Oct 2, 2026.

This year’s theme, Rooted, invites sessions that help health and human services professionals and organizations stay connected to purpose, strengthen their foundations, and respond to change.

🚨We’re especially seeking proposals in the following topic areas: Ethics, Aging, Adult Services, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Community Practice and Policy, and Child Well-Being.

We’re looking for more MSSA Annual Conference proposals related to disability services, including topics such as CFSS, Medical Assistance programs and eligibility, and resources for people with disabilities in rural Minnesota.

MSSA is looking for sessions that offer practical applications, fresh perspectives, and emerging or adapted approaches to strengthen health and human services work.

Topics may span direct service, professional well-being, ethics, leadership and workforce issues, equity and belonging, community knowledge and lived experience, partnerships, systems change, and more.
