What a night. 💛

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Daily Work’s SOLD OUT Steps to Success event and supported our mission so generously. What an incredible night of community, connection, and hope.

We were especially honored to have John Choi open the evening by sharing parts of his personal journey with such honesty and emotion that the entire room felt it. His words helped all of us understand more deeply just how important it is to show up for immigrants and other marginalized community members.

And we are excited to share that together, we reached our event goal! 🎉

We’ll be back soon with final numbers and more photos and details from the evening. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the warmer weather and have a relaxing weekend ahead. ☀️

This summer, our Equity Chats are centered around The Warmth of Other Suns, and I’m almost through the first 200 pages. It has been an incredible read so far... sobering, painful, inspiring, and deeply human all at once.

Even though this book tells the story of the Great Migration within the United States, the emotions and experiences feel familiar to the stories I hear every day at Daily Work: leaving behind what is familiar, searching for safety, opportunity and stability, and real opportunity for a better life.

The history is specific, but the humanity feels universal. And even in the middle of so much hardship, there is resilience, courage, hope, and community woven throughout these pages.

This book has already challenged me and taught me so much, and I’m really excited that we’ll get to reflect on it together during our Summer Equity Chats.

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful summer read and thoughtful conversation, I hope you’ll join us on June 6 for our first discussion, focused on the first 205 pages. We’ll continue in July and August as we work through the rest of the book together.

Ahead of Daily Work’s May 20 Steps to Success Benefit Dinner, we’re sharing a sneak peek video featuring Mebrat’s employment journey.

After arriving in Minnesota, Mebrat faced barriers navigating employment, education, transportation, and career pathways in a new country. With long-term, relationship-based support from Daily Work, she pursued English classes, earned certifications, secured healthcare employment, and is continuing to build a career in the medical field.

Her story reflects something we see every day at Daily Work: workforce development is most effective when it is personalized, holistic, and connected to the realities people are navigating outside of work.

An almost-empty jar of chocolates. A handwritten thank you note. 💛

Small things. Big meaning.

A job seeker recently dropped these off to thank our team for the encouragement, kindness, and support they experienced at Daily Work.

Also, if you’re wondering why the jar is nearly empty… let’s just say the chocolates were VERY appreciated by staff. 😂🍫

Notes like this remind us why relationships matter so much.

Looking for work while navigating barriers can feel exhausting and lonely. Everyone deserves people in their corner who believe in them and keep showing up.

We’re so grateful for our Daily Work community. ✨

We’re sharing two new blogs from our outgoing interns, and both speak to the heart of this work. 💛

Hassan Ahmed, pictured below with fellow intern, Rafa Buettner-Salido at Day at the Capitol, reflects on the power of advocacy and what it means to use your voice to shape the systems that impact people’s lives, including your own. 📣

Kenzie Bingel writes about why saying goodbye matters and how reflection and intention lead to more thoughtful transitions. 🌱

Different stories, but a shared truth. This work is about relationships, trust, and how we show up for one another.

We’re grateful for the care and insight they’ve brought to Daily Work. Take a moment to read their reflections. Link in the comments. 👇

We’re honored to welcome Mukhtar M. Ibrahim, founder of Sahan Journal, as the keynote speaker at Daily Work’s Steps to Success Benefit on May 20. ✨🎤

Mukhtar came to Minnesota as a teenager, navigating a new country without a roadmap; figuring out everything from job applications to daily life, step by step. That experience continues to shape how he sees the world and the stories he tells. Click here to read some of his work: https://sahanjournal.com/author/mukhtar-ibrahim/

At Steps to Success, he’ll reflect on what it means to start over and the unique challenges immigrants face as they find their footing in American culture and workplaces. 💼🧭

It’s a perspective rooted in lived experience and one that speaks directly to the moment we’re in.
