Relationships are a foundational determinant of lifelong health. A growing body of research demonstrates that early relational health (ERH), defined as the quality of nurturing, responsive, and supportive relationships in early childhood, shapes children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical health across the lifespan. At the same time, pediatricians are increasingly seeking practical, strengths-based approaches to support families and promote resilience.

This webinar will introduce the emerging science of early relational health and discuss how pediatric primary care can serve as a powerful platform for promoting child, family, and community well-being. Drawing on findings from the recent National Academies report on Early Relational Health and the HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) Framework, participants will learn practical strategies for recognizing family strengths, promoting positive childhood experiences, and integrating relational approaches into everyday pediatric care.

If you are interested in serving on the MNAAP Board of Directors, or you have someone you would like to nominate for the board, please send an email to [email protected] before June 18, 2026 indicating your interest in serving on the Board of Directors (or your nominee’s name and contact information).

Please include a copy of your CV and provide a brief explanation (max of 200 words) with the following:
- Why you would like to serve on the MNAAP Board of Directors.
-What aspect of your identity is important to you and that you would like others to know.
- How do you see yourself being able to help our board become more diverse and move our chapter's anti-racism and equity work forward.
- What special expertise/skills/interests would you bring to the Board if elected.

Board members:
- Serve a 3-year term
- Meet four times per year, usually from 6:30-8:30 p.m (In-person or via Zoom)
- Act as a board member for the chapter's sister organization, the Minnesota Academy of Pediatrics Foundation, which is a 501c3 foundation that receives grant and government funds to promote the MNAAP chapter member priorities

Our desire is to have a broad and diverse representation from pediatricians throughout the state and also represent the diverse racial makeup of our Minnesota pediatricians and our pediatric patients. As we have been told by many, if we want to see more pediatricians who are Black, Indigenous, or Persons of Color (BIPOC) be involved with our chapter, we need to make sure there are more BIPOC pediatricians on our board.

📢 Today, the MN Academy of Family Physicians, Minnesota Medical Association, Minnesota Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, MN ACP, Minnesota Psychiatric Society + other medical organizations submitted a letter urging support for legislation to ban assault weapons + high-capacity magazines in MN.

Firearm injuries are the leading cause of death for children in the U.S., & gun violence has devastating effects on the mental + physical health of survivors & communities.

📊 Evidence shows states with assault weapon + high-capacity magazine bans see fewer mass shooting fatalities.

As physicians, we see the human toll firsthand — death & injury by firearm is a public health crisis.

We call on lawmakers to pass evidence-based policies to protect MN’s children & families.

🏛️ Key legislation:

HF 3433 (Representative Emma Greenman) – Ban on semiautomatic military-style assault weapons.

HF 3402 (State Representative Brad Tabke) – Ban on large-capacity magazines.

(Rep. Kelly Morrison)
