We had the amazing opportunity as Renville County Farm Bureau to help volunteer and sponsor the first ever 5th Grade Ag Day at the Renville County Fair. The event was put on by Farm Camp Minnesota - Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom and welcomed over 110 fifth graders and nearly 40 volunteers. The whole concept of the day is to showcase the local agriculture industry and careers to the 5th grade students in the area. Stops included Nathan Serbus Farms, Beck's Hybrids - Olivia, and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service “Minnesota NRCS” Grazing Trailer. Station hosts were Re*****on Seeds - Olivia Bean Plants,Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative, Kibble Equipment – Bird Island, Mountain View Ag – Jake Melhouse, Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart FFA, and Renville County West FFA Chapter with Southern Agricultural Center of Excellence. The event was coordinated by Brandi Wulkan, Farm Camp Program Director and Renville County P & E Chair. The event was also supported by Robin Kinney, Director of Member Relations at Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation. Our county members who volunteered were President Doug Olinger; Vice President Randy Kramer; Carlton “Chuck” Gustafson; and Amanda Revier. We also had the opportunity as an organization to sponsor lunch for all of the wonderful educators and volunteers at this event. They had a yummy lunch catered from The Broaster Cafe in Bird Island. We can’t wait for the program to grow in our area and are excited to be a part of educating the next generation about agriculture.
