Hot weather is here! ☀️ Remember to check on yourself, your neighbors and your pets during extreme heat.

The Cooling Portland program is accepting applications for free, energy-efficient portable cooling units. Income-eligible Portlanders can call 3-1-1 through June 30 or apply on our website through July (https://emoregon.org/cooling-portland/).

This is the final year of the program, so don't miss this opportunity. Installations will continue in the coming months, with priority given to those most vulnerable to extreme heat.

World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

SOAR (Sponsors Organized to Assist Refugees) has been resettling refugees in Oregon for over forty years. SOAR Immigration Legal Services works tirelessly Today, on World Refugee Day, we encourage you to like their page and follow along with what they are doing.

Tonight there is a community-led walk in Portland and we encourage all of you to attend if you are able!

On June 19, 1865, the work of General Order Number Three, which stated that all slaves were free, finally reached Galveston, Texas. Folks around the country come together to remember that day and what it means.

Most EMO programs and services will be closed today and tomorrow to honor Juneteenth. This is just one day among many to remember that Black history is American history.
