Montavilla, Mt. Tabor, Lents, Rockwood, and the surrounding neighborhoods deserve the same emergency response at 2:00 AM as they do at 2:00 PM.

Next Wednesday, Portland City Council will vote on restoring 24-hour staffing for Rescue 11, Rescue 19, and Rescue 31.

These rescue companies respond to heart attacks, serious injuries, house fires, and other life-threatening emergencies—day and night. When they’re unavailable overnight, emergency response is stretched thinner when every minute matters.

If you live in or near these neighborhoods, now is the time to make your voice heard.

Please contact your City Council Members before Wednesday’s vote and ask them to restore 24-hour staffing for Rescue 11, Rescue 19, and Rescue 31.

Volunteers working to restore the David Campbell Memorial in SW Portland are in the final phase of the 15-year project, but need community support to complete it.

For the past 6 years, and the David Campbell Memorial Association (DCMA) have been working to restore our Portland Firefighter Memorial, a true city jewel. The David Campbell Memorial, located at 1864 SW Alder Street, is a 98-year old city heritage site that honors the legacy of Fallen Fire Chief David Campbell. It also is the official place of remembrance for all 79 Portland Firefighters who have given their lives in service to the citizens of Portland.

Did you know that the memorial has been damaged and is incomplete? Decades of vandalism and neglect have resulted costly repairs and the removal of brass name plates for each of Portland Fire’s fallen heroes. Construction is ongoing to modernize the memorial so that each firefighter’s name will not be forgotten, and so that the City and families can properly honor their sacrifice.

In one of the cities oldest cemeteries, established in 1846, rests a portion of Lone Fir Cemetery, known as “Fire Fighter’s Section.” Here rests more than 150 of Portland Fire Fighters and their families. On June 26, we remember the sacrifice of Chief David Campbell at the Union Oil Fire in 1911. The names of 79 Portland Firefighters are read, awards of valor are recognized, and our rich tradition and history is remembered.
