The North American Martyrs, including St. Isaac Jogues and his fellow Jesuit missionaries gave their lives for the faith while bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to North America. Today, pilgrims visit the North American Martyrs Shrine to remember their witness and reflect on their courage and faith. We continue to ask for their intercession and look to their example as we share the Gospel in our own lives.

In this past Sunday’s Gospel, the Pharisees and Herodians tried to trap Jesus with their question about the tax to Caeser. Jesus reminds them of the balance that exists between obligations to God and the world. We have many responsibilities in our daily lives, but our greatest responsibility is to God, whose image we bear.

St. Teresa of Ávila was a great mystic and Doctor of the Church, but she also knew the frustrations of everyday life. After a carriage accident left her face-down in the mud, she famously quipped, “𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬, 𝐧𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲."

Her story reminds us that we don't have to be perfect to have a close relationship with God. Through the stress, unexpected twists, and everyday frustrations, we can keep turning to Him and trust that everything else will pass.

From October 19–22, more than 160 priests of the Archdiocese of Baltimore will gather with the Archbishop for the 2026 Convocation—a time of prayer, reflection, and fraternity.

As they prepare for this time together, we invite you to commit to praying for our priests. Whether through Eucharistic Adoration, the Rosary, or another devotion, your prayers make a difference as we ask the Lord to help our priests lead happy, healthy, and holy lives.

Children do not learn how to be part of the Church by staying home until they can sit quietly. They learn by being here.

They learn the Sign of the Cross by watching us make it.
They learn the prayers by hearing us pray them.
They learn the Scriptures by hearing the Word of God proclaimed.
They learn reverence by watching us kneel.
They learn that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist by seeing the love and reverence with which we approach to receive Him.
They learn that the Church is their home because we make room for them here.

The wiggles, whispers, crying babies, and little voices are not signs that children don't belong at Mass. They are signs that the Church is alive. So bring the babies. Bring the toddlers. Bring the big kids. Sit in the front so the littles can see. Step out when you need to… but always come back in.

At Baptism, these children became members of the Body of Christ. They belong here.
They need the grace of the sacraments, the example of their parents, and the love and patience of their parish family.

Los niños no aprenden a ser parte de la Iglesia quedándose en casa hasta que puedan sentarse en silencio. Aprenden estando aquí.

Aprenden la señal de la cruz viéndonos hacerla.
Aprenden las oraciones escuchándonos rezarlas.
Aprenden las Escrituras escuchando proclamar la Palabra de Dios.
Aprenden la reverencia viéndonos arrodillarnos.
Aprenden que Jesús está verdaderamente presente en la Eucaristía al ver el amor y la reverencia con los que nos acercamos a recibirlo.
Aprenden que la Iglesia es su hogar porque les hacemos un espacio aquí.

Los movimientos, los susurros, los bebés que lloran y las vocecitas no son señales de que los niños no pertenezcan a la misa. Son señales de que la Iglesia está viva. Así que traigan a los bebés. Traigan a los niños pequeños. Traigan a los niños grandes. Siéntense adelante para que los más pequeños puedan ver. Salgan cuando lo necesiten... pero siempre regresen.

En el Bautismo, estos niños se convirtieron en miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo. Ellos pertenecen aquí.
Necesitan la gracia de los sacramentos, el ejemplo de sus padres y el amor y la paciencia de su familia parroquial.

In this past Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the wedding banquet. The invitation is extended to all, but some ignore it, make excuses, or simply aren’t prepared to accept it.
We’ve all been invited to the banquet of eternal life. Let’s not let busyness, distractions, or our own plans keep us from responding.
How are you responding to God’s invitation today?

En el Evangelio del pasado domingo, Jesús cuenta la parábola del banquete de bodas. La invitación se extiende a todos, pero algunos la ignoran, ponen excusas o simplemente no están preparados para aceptarla.

Todos hemos sido invitados al banquete de la vida eterna. No dejemos que las ocupaciones, las distracciones o nuestros propios planes nos impidan responder.

Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos served right here in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, ministering in Baltimore, Annapolis, and Cumberland This October, we pray for his canonization and ask for his intercession.
