Need a ride to the polls tomorrow? We can help!

If transportation is a barrier to voting on Election Day, there are options available to help you get to your polling site!

🚌 Start with Transit Services of Frederick County! Transit is offering free public transportation to many polling sites. Check out their website and social media for more information about which bus to take and how to plan your trip.

🚗 Need another option? If Transit doesn’t serve your polling site or isn’t a good fit for your needs, call 211 to access the Ride United Network (RUN) for help getting to your polling site.*

Everyone deserves the opportunity to make their voice heard, and we’re here to help remove barriers along the way!

*Rides are only available to and from polling sites on Election Day (11/3). Rides do not need to be scheduled in advance.

💙 Did You Know? There are 108,000+ households in Frederick County and 32% live below the ALICE Threshold. That's 34,465 households struggling to afford essentials like housing, child care, transportation, and health care.

💙 Who is ALICE? ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed. These are our neighbors, friends, and coworkers who work hard every day but still don't earn enough to cover the basic cost of living in Frederick County.

For a family of four, that cost is now more than $121,000 a year. Even with steady employment, many families face difficult choices just to make ends meet.

At United Way of Frederick County, we're working to change that. Through programs like Pathway to Transportation, Pathway to Homeownership, free tax preparation, and financial coaching, we're helping ALICE households overcome barriers, build financial stability, and create brighter futures.

One car. Two journeys. A beautiful reminder of the power of paying it forward.

When Leslie received her vehicle through our Pathway to Transportation program in partnership with Second Chances Garage Inc., she gained more than a way to get to work. She gained an opportunity to build a more stable future for her family.

But there was something especially meaningful about this vehicle: it was donated by Miesha, who had received that very same car nearly a decade ago during a difficult time in her own life.

When the two met at the vehicle presentation, they hugged, cried, and prayed together. Miesha’s journey had come full circle, and Leslie was beginning a new chapter of her own.

“A breath of fresh air.” That’s how Kumba described receiving her new vehicle.

After losing her previous vehicle, Kumba faced challenges getting to work and pursuing new career opportunities, but with the help of our Ride United Network (RUN) and Pathway to Transportation programs, she was able to receive the boost she needed to get ahead.

Now, thanks to a minivan donated by the YMCA of Frederick County to Second Chances Garage Inc., Kumba has reliable transportation to support her work with seniors and commute to her new role.

Her story is a powerful example of what happens when community partners come together to help neighbors overcome barriers and move forward. 💙

A fresh start for Tecourella and her family!

Last month, we had the honor of celebrating Tecourella and her hard work as she received her own vehicle!

As a mom working toward greater financial stability, Tecourella knows just how important reliable transportation can be. Without a dependable vehicle, everyday responsibilities, medical appointments, and opportunities to pursue employment can become much harder to manage.

Today, she is a proud graduate of our Pathway to Transportation program in partnership with Second Chances Garage Inc. and has her very own vehicle to get to the doctor, grocery store, work and more!

With her son by her side to celebrate the special milestone, Tecourella is now looking ahead to greater independence and new opportunities for her family.

🎓 FAFSA Finish is coming up at Frederick High School!

Join United Way of Frederick County and our community partners on October 21 at Frederick High School for a FREE FAFSA Finish workshop! Get hands-on support from financial aid experts who can answer your questions and help you navigate the financial aid process.

Planning to attend? Students and any required contributors should create their own FSA IDs ahead of time to help make completing the FAFSA easier at the workshop.

FAFSA Finish workshops are open to all FCPS Maryland students, regardless of which school they attend, as well as families and adult learners.

October 21 – Frederick High School
October 28 – Linganore High School

Can't make either date? No worries! More FAFSA Finish workshops are scheduled for throughout the remainder of the year.

We’re already looking ahead to the next Day of Action and we want to see you there! If you joined us this year, we hope you’ll be back. If you missed it, 2027 is your chance to jump in!

👋 Are you a nonprofit? Project registration will open in the spring, so start thinking about how volunteers could support your organization!
🙋 Want to volunteer? Volunteer registration will open in July so get your teams ready!

We have one more group of Day of Action heroes to thank. 💙

Behind every volunteer project was a project host, a local nonprofit or community organization that helped plan, prep and organize everything at each site before volunteers ever arrived.

They gathered supplies. They mapped out projects. They created instructions. They answered questions. They made sure there was meaningful work ready to go when our volunteers showed up. And then they welcomed all of those volunteers with open arms.

From building projects to assembling kits, packing meals, beautifying spaces and so much more, our project hosts made it possible for volunteers to spend their day doing work that truly mattered.

To every organization that hosted a Day of Action project: THANK YOU. Your partnership, preparation and willingness to let our volunteers into your work made the day what it was.

We are so grateful for the incredible nonprofits and community organizations doing the work every day to make Frederick County stronger for our ALICE community.

United Way of Frederick County and our community partners are hosting FREE FAFSA Finish workshops for FCPS Maryland students, families, and adult learners.

Get hands-on support from financial aid experts who can help you create, complete, and submit your FAFSA. You can also get answers to your questions, learn more about financial aid opportunities, and be entered to win a scholarship just for attending! 💙

FAFSA Finish workshops are open to all FCPS students, regardless of which school they attend.

If you plan to complete your FAFSA at the workshop, create your FSA ID at least five days ahead of time and bring the required tax documents.
