We provide a permanent, loving home for old hounds, primarily basset hounds, beagles, and mixes, that nobody else wants.

Beagle romance is alive and well at House of Puddles. These two are hopelessly in love. Barkley never misses an opportunity to smooch Reba, and Reba is clearly thinking, “Yes, darling. Keep going.”

Now it’s Benny’s turn at the all-you-can-chew Knucklebone Buffet! Meanwhile, Trip is taking a nap on his bone with one eye open, because apparently you can never be too careful around a buffet full of freeloaders.

Trip has claimed the entire bed as his personal knuckle bone buffet. One for chewing, and apparently several backups… because you never know when you might run out.

Our hearts are full... and so are our foster homes. 💔🐾

Right now, we are at capacity, which means we can't say "yes" to the next senior hound who desperately needs a safe place to land.

Every time we receive a call about an older dog in need, we wish we could help. These sweet seniors deserve comfort, love, and a soft bed—not to spend their final days alone or in a shelter. But without more foster homes, our hands are tied.

Fostering truly saves lives. We provide the support, guidance, and veterinary care—you provide the love and a temporary home. Even fostering one senior hound opens the door for us to rescue another.

If you've ever thought about fostering, now is the time. Please consider opening your heart and home to a senior hound. You could be the reason we can say "yes" to the next life that needs us.

Buddy is a very lucky boy. He lives on a farm with foster mom and dad, Cyrille & Jim (and Garry the guard goose), and they have quite a story to tell--

It's hard to believe Buddy is 11 years old. He spends a good portion of the day playing with any dog with whom he can engage. His favorite playtime partner is the 5 year old male Golden Retriever, Finley. Poor Finley routinely walks around with Buddy spit on his head and ears from the wrestling matches. However, Buddy will also get involved with the "hound chase sessions" when the beagles begin barking at and chasing one another. It's not uncommon to see Buddy in the middle of the yard, jumping backwards and stomping his feet to get someone to play with him. Normally someone eventually comes along and is happy to oblige.

When he's not playing, he likes to stand at the gate and bark and Garry the guard goose, or one of the stray farm cats as they wander by. The farm critters ignore him by now, but a couple of the cats and the goose sometimes sit just a few feet from the fence, as if to torment poor Buddy. He doesn't have much interest in the chickens but when the guineas start a game of chase, Buddy and a couple of the other hounds get very excited about it and run laps around the yard, trying to keep track of the guinea chase. If the cows are closer to the house, that's very exciting as well because then we have huge yard monsters and we must be alerted!

He loves having his bum scratched, just above the tail. He's quite the opportunist because he's been known to scoot under a taller dog and do his "hula" routine, to scratch his bum against their chest. If we're sitting and working at the computer, there's always a spare leg that needs a job and he's happy to give it one. Likewise, even working in the kitchen, you might not need to stand on two legs the whole time so he bumps up against us until you put that one leg to good use.

Many mornings, he will lounge in yard in the sunny areas. As the shade moves in and the sun spots shift, Buddy shifts areas of the yard with the sun. Once he gets warm enough, he comes inside to flop in front of the fan and recharge for his next big play session.

When Sniffers, now 14, arrived at his foster home with Matt Willey, his right eye was in such bad shape it had to be removed. He didn’t bother to negotiate with fate about it. Now he’s down one eye but still fully convinced he’s the neighborhood security chief—regularly patrolling the yard and loudly informing deer and foxes in the field that they are, in fact, trespassing on his personal kingdom.

At 11 years old, Strudel is the newest member of the crew, currently being spoiled rotten by foster dad Matt Willey. Sweet, affectionate, and clearly committed to her beauty rest, Strudel enjoys wandering off to quiet rooms for strategic nap deployment. Judging by her confidence in disappearing for hours at a time, it’s safe to say this house suffers from a severe surplus of comfy beds.
