Looking for some good news at the start of Pride?

We've helped 21 communities across West Virginia adopt local fairness laws that ban discrimination in employment, housing, and public spaces. That's 21 communities who have stood up to say everyone deserves to be treated fairly.

On top of that, we've helped four communities ban the dangerous and discredited practice of conversion therapy!

Let's send some love to these communities! 💛💙

We're sending a huge congratulations to our friend and former staff member John Brown-Huggins! John is one of a kind, and he has spent so many years helping and advocating for our community. This recognition is much deserved! 💙💛

🏆🌈 Power of One Honoree — John Brown-Huggins

For decades, John Brown-Huggins has been a cornerstone of West Virginia's LGBTQ+ movement, and this year we are proud to recognize his extraordinary legacy.

Since arriving in Charleston in 1987, John has given everything to this community — serving the Charleston AIDS Network for over 20 years, lobbying at the state capitol for LGBTQ+ rights, and lending his talents to countless organizations including PFLAG, OutRight, and the Harvey Milk Community Center.

As a co-founder and former co-chair of the West Virginia Pride Parade and Festival, John helped build the very tradition we celebrate today. As we mark the 30th anniversary of Rainbow Pride of WV, there is no one more deserving of this honor.
Please join us in celebrating John at our June 6th Pride Parade & Festival and at the Power of One Awards: Legends of Pride Gala (this November) and help us recognize a man whose selfless service has shaped the history of our community. 🌈❤️

Do you know where your state lawmaker stands on LGBTQ+ equality? It's never been easier to find out. Check out the WV Equality Report Card we just dropped to find out.

“West Virginians are paying attention, and they’re tired,” said Andrew Schneider, executive director of Fairness West Virginia. “They’re tired of watching lawmakers spend year after year on bills that don’t lower costs, don’t fix our roads, don’t improve our schools, and don’t make life better for families. This report card gives people the tools to see exactly who is driving those priorities.”
