Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema by WVIFF

Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema by WVIFF The Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema is an independent theater in Charleston, West Virginia, operated by the West Virginia International Film Festival.

The Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema is Charleston, West Virginia's nonprofit, independent movie theater - a place to see foreign, local, documentary, and indie films in an intimate setting. Located in the basement of Taylor Books' Annex Gallery, visitors can enter through Taylor Books or through our alley entrance in the alley between Capitol Street and Hale Street. The Floralee shows feature films eac

h month in addition to our special programming through series such as Movies That Matter (issue-oriented films) and WV Wednesdays (films by, about or made in WV). After 30 years of showcasing films in West Virginia, the WVIFF recognized the need for a singular space to screen movies year-round. The Floralee Hark Cohen Cinema is the culmination of that vision and affords the WV International Film Festival the ability to bring audiences an even broader offering of films. If you are interested in partnering with us for a screening or renting the cinema, please check out our rentals page at http://wviff.org/floralee/rentals

INTRODUCING our August lineup!

OLMO: Fourteen-year-old Olmo and his family are struggling to make ends meet in 1979 New Mexico. Due to an illness that keeps his father Nestor confined to his bed, his mother Cecilia, his sister Ana, and even he himself must contribute to the daily caretaking responsibilities. Olmo, in the throes of selfish adolescence, would much rather hang out with his best friend Miguel and try to impress his beautiful next-door neighbor Nina than take care of his dad.

READING LO**TA IN TEHRAN: In 1979, amidst censorship and religious extremism, a revolutionary literature professor in Tehran gathers seven of her most dedicated female students to immerse themselves in banned literary classics.

CATVIDEOFEST: CatVideoFest curates a compilation reel of the latest, best cat videos culled from countless hours of unique submissions and sourced animations, music videos, and, of course, classic internet powerhouses.

SUMMER TOUR: Few American demographics are more easily caricatured than Deadheads, those swirling, dosing, hippy-dressed vagabonds. But in his infinitely sweet and wise documentary, director Mischa Richter offers us the Deadheads as complex, self-aware and resourceful members of a wandering commune, one that’s admirable for its kindness and care.
