Our YWCA fact of the day is from Resolve:

Did you know that domestic violence is more than just domestic physical? It’s a pattern of power and control. Physical abuse is only one tool abusers use.

Follow the line. 👀

Maybe it’s a way to show up.
Maybe it’s exactly where you’re needed.

Janet, we missed your email—or maybe you didn't send one. 👀

But here’s the information you requested about YWCA Charleston…

Oh wait. There was no Janet.

But since you’re here, let’s introduce ourselves.

YWCA Charleston has been part of the Kanawha Valley since 1912. Over more than a century, we’ve grown and evolved, but our purpose remains: eliminating racism and empowering women.

You might recognize some of our programs:

💜 Resolve Family Abuse Program
💜 Sojourner’s Shelter for Homeless Women and Families
💜 Mel Wolf Child Development Center
💜 Shanklin Center for Senior Enrichment
💜 Alicia McCormick Homes
💜 Community Outreach & Education
…and more.

We work with people from all walks of life because the truth is, any of us can experience a moment when we need a little support.

And we’re not just working behind the scenes. You’ll find us out in the community, too—hosting events like Women of Achievement, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2027, the Race to End Racism, the Juneteenth Freedom Ride, and more.

So, Janet may not exist…

…but you do. And there’s a place for you here.

✨ Did you know August is Black Owned Business Month? ✨

This month, we’re celebrating the Black entrepreneurs, creators, and business owners whose passion, talent, and dedication help make our communities stronger.

Now we want to hear from YOU! 💜

👇 What are your favorite Black-owned businesses in the Kanawha Valley? Share them in the comments and help us spread the word about the amazing businesses in our community.

In West Virginia, too many families face the uncertainty of not knowing where their next meal will come from.

Behind food insecurity are parents making difficult choices, children who deserve stability, and families working hard to make ends meet.

At YWCA Charleston, we believe every family deserves access to the resources they need to thrive.

💜 On average, a $250 donation provides groceries for one of the families we serve for an entire month — offering more than food, but stability, dignity, and peace of mind during a challenging time.

Your support helps families focus on what comes next, knowing one basic need is covered.

Together, we can help make sure no family has to face hunger alone.

On this Sunday morning, let this be your reminder:

Getting out was the brave part.

Healing doesn't have to happen all at once.

It's okay to move slowly. It's okay to rest. It's okay to rediscover who you are one day, one step, one choice at a time.

Because slow is still forward.

And when you're ready, we'll be here to help you rebuild—not just your life, but your confidence, your independence, and your hope.

💜 You don't have to do it alone.

It’s kinda chic to care. ✨

Because eliminating racism? Empowering women? Creating a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive?

That never goes out of style.

For more than 100 years, YWCA Charleston has been showing up for the Kanawha Valley — providing shelter, support, advocacy, and resources for women, families, and our community.

Building a better future will always be in fashion. 💜
