The Family Policy Council of WV is tracking legislation that strengthens penalties for crimes against children and promotes proper oversight of cases involving child abuse.

Breaking a child’s limb, burning them, forcing a child to live in an area not suitable for habitation, or depriving them of food or water are not just acts of abuse... they are acts of torture.

SB 986 clearly defines this conduct in statute and establishes serious felony penalties. West Virginia must ensure the punishment matches the severity of the crime, and our children are protected.

This Christmas, we are reminded that Jesus came to save lost sinners offering them redemption and renewed lives by and through Him. We are reminded of the glorious meaning behind Christmas, the teachings Christ taught us to live by, and the blessing of God's presence in our lives.

Merry Christmas from The Family Policy Council of WV.

As a Cowger, I have a lot of family in Webster County, and I know the entire community is grieving right now. I've already been on the phone with several of our lawmakers. As a private citizen, I will be urging them to commission a statute in Webster Springs to commemorate the life of this brave and courageous daughter of West Virginia.

I have spoken with my board, and this will be one of the top priorities of The Family Policy Council of WV during the upcoming legislative session. Heroes like Sarah exemplify what it means to be a West Virginian—selfless sacrifice for the safety and well-being of our people.

Sarah was a devoted Christian, and we take comfort in knowing she is in the arms of our Savior now.

One of the verses Sarah once shared was Matthew 28:6: “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.” With her family’s approval, we will submit a recommendation that this verse (or her favorite verse) should accompany her memorial.

May Christ be with her and her family always. Let us keep them all in our continual prayers.

As we come together this Thanksgiving, we at The Family Policy Council of WV extend our warmest wishes for a blessed holiday filled with love, gratitude, and peace. This season is a time to reflect on the many blessings we enjoy, while also remembering those in need of our prayers and support.

Today, we ask that all West Virginians join us in praying for Andrew Wolfe and Sarah Beckstrom, two brave National Guardsmen from our great state, who were tragically shot in Washington, D.C. Our hearts are heavy for them, their families, and their loved ones. We pray for them, and their strength and comfort during this challenging time.

Let us also lift up their families in prayer, asking for God's peace and protection as they face this difficult journey.

As we gather around our tables this Thanksgiving, remember them and thank our Lord for their faithful service to our country.

May God's blessings be upon you and your loved ones this Thanksgiving.
