AIA-WV represents over 300 American Institute of Architects members - registered architects, intern-architects,engineers, contracting firms and building supply businesses - working in West Virginia. Through its continuing education system, AIA is committed to the lifelong learning of its members in an effort to improve society through a dedication to design excellence and a concern for the quality of human life.

For nearly four decades, the West Virginia Foundation for Architecture has invested in the future of the profession through scholarships, educational initiatives, public outreach, and leadership development.

Since 1986, WVFA has awarded 166 scholarships totaling more than $355,000 to architecture students attending programs throughout West Virginia and across the country.

Many scholarship recipients have gone on to become practicing architects, AIA West Virginia members, firm leaders, community advocates, and Foundation supporters.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to strengthening architectural education, advancing public understanding of design, and supporting the next generation of leaders.

We are pleased to share that a direct link to the documentary Modernism in the Mountains is now available on the AIA West Virginia website.

Produced in 2020 by former AIA WV Executive Director Judy Belcher, with video production by Focus Media Company, the film explores the influence of the Bauhaus movement and modernist architecture within West Virginia.

The project was made possible through the support of many firms and partners, including Scheeser Buckley Mayfield, ZMM Architects and Engineers, Edward Tucker Architects, Inc., Bastin & Harris Architects, Corbett Inc., Watkins Design Works, G*t Creek, Fairmont State University Department of Architecture, the former West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture & History, and others.

If you have never seen it — or if it has been awhile — it is well worth the watch.
