HI, HOW ARE YOU PROJECT

WHAT WE DO.

The Hi How Are You Project is a non-profit organization inspiring new conversations around mental health issues by funding and creating thoughtful media content, projects and events. The Foundation, created with the support of Daniel Johnston and Family, provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and education on mental well-being. Donations to the Foundation fund mental health Awareness, Research, and Education.

WHO WE ARE.

On January 22, 2018, our home community of Austin, TX united in a day of sharing and caring. Austinites were encouraged to check in on a neighbor, friend, co-worker, family member, or loved one and ask, β€œHi, How Are You?” - and to really mean it! The name and city-proclaimed "Hi, How Are You?" Day were inspired by Austin’s love for the iconic mural painted by Daniel Johnston - himself a world-renowned musician and visual artist despite his own struggles with mental health issues. The success of the day - and the outpouring of support from around the world - inspired us to form the Hi How Are You Project. Our mission is to remove the stigma and shame around mental health, so people will feel open to communicate.
