Texas Housers is a dynamic nonprofit organization. We look for opportunities where we can apply our resources to develop model solutions to solve critical housing and community development problems.

Laws designed to ease regulations that limit housing diversity and supply are passing in states around the country.

With the passage of the Apartment Inspection Ordinance, Houston tenants played a major role in crafting policy for their own communities.

The City of Houston now has an updated, enforceable Apartment Inspection Ordinance, and it is all because of the hard work and unbreakable spirit of the community. After many years and several iterations, on May 6, Houston City Council passed the Apartment Inspection Ordinance, developing a system w...

Veterans in San Antonio wouldn't take no for an answer regarding landlords discriminating against their VASH vouchers. After a long fight, they now have Source of Income protections to show for it.

Today, San Antonio City Council passed source of income discrimination protections for veterans using a VASH voucher. This was years’ worth of work led by veterans in San Antonio, and this community work will continue to ensure that this policy is effectively curbing voucher discrimination against veterans.

While the job is not done, here is what we had to say today during testimony.

If simple provisions to stabilize tenants worked in San Antonio, why are we not doing this all over Texas?

Our latest episode of A Little Louder dives into the top evictor project we’ve been working on for the past few months and what conclusions we’re seeing. We talk serial evictors, evictors at subsidized housing, the way owners hide themselves in shell companies, and what we’re suggesting to change this.

We would like to thank San Antonio District 5 and for their Fair Housing Plática this past weekend! In honor of fair housing month, it was a great experience to stress the importance of fair housing, in particular as San Antonio grows, the need for affordable housing rises, and decision makers must decide the future of public housing.

And thanks to all who joined us! See you at the next event. 🏡
