After more than 20 years building global digital businesses, Jamie Hunt was ready to make something that did not live on a screen. ✨

The idea showed up while enjoying an after-dinner amaro with her husband at Rob Roy in Seattle.

She thought: Maybe I can make this?

The idea wasn’t as impulsive as it sounds. Jamie had fallen for amaro while traveling in Italy in her twenties, and Italian food culture had shaped her long before that.

Her grandparents emigrated from Sicily. Her childhood memories include slow Sunday dinners, homemade pasta drying around the house, and her grandmother’s California garden fragrant with herbs and citrus. 🍋🌿

You see, at Grandma’s house hospitality was never treated like a special occasion. It was simply how people were welcomed.

That same sensibility now runs through Fast Penny Spirits, Jamie’s Seattle-based amaro distillery. Its flagship Amaricano (get it??) blends Italian tradition with ingredients from the Pacific Northwest: Rainier cherries, Yakima hops, Oregon hazelnuts, locally foraged black truffles, and Washington saffron.

Getting there took two and a half years, hundreds of blends, many tiny bottles, and one spreadsheet with an impressive work ethic. 😅

The result is not trying to recreate Italy in Seattle. It is Jamie’s interpretation of what tradition can look like when it picks up a little PNW attitude along the way.

But a stellar origin story isn’t all that Jamie wants her brand to be known for. She also believes in the power of paying it forward. That’s why FPS gives 3% of bottle revenue through its Pretty Penny program to women in business, local communities, and the hospitality industry. (LWL is honored to be its Pretty Penny partner this year!) The company is also a Certified B Corp.

Still, Jamie’s favorite proof that the idea is working has nothing to do with a certification or a bottle count.

It is the stranger who joins the conversation, or the friend who stays for another drink. The ordinary Tuesday evening that gets away from you in the best possible way.

Jamie says: “At the end of the day, we don’t just make amaro. We create opportunities for connection.”

Motette creates super soft, Mommy & Me-style matching PJ sets that you’ll *actually* want to wear. And within a year of launching, Sam has her brand flying high in retailers like Macy’s, Nordstrom, and more.

Sam shared how her kids have encouraged her to embrace curiosity to become a better leader.

That curiosity has led her to experiment more and more with AI tools, ultimately reducing her non-inventory opex to just $1500 per month. 😱

Our team started playing around with Codex, and it’s been a great experience! Here’s our tips for getting started. 👉

Install Codex on your computer! That’s where you can get the most leverage out of it. 👉

Codex uses “Projects” to keep itself (and you!) organized. You can link it to an existing folder on your computer, or create a brand new one. 👉

Context is QUEEN. If you want to make AI *actually* work for you and your business, then you gotta give it the information it needs. Otherwise you waste valuable resources on creating the dreaded “slop.” 👉

You don’t have to start from scratch with your context. Upload existing files too! 👉

Practice = progress. Though it might be frustrating at first, don’t give up. Challenge yourself to try something at least once per day! 💪

Who dares open up a brick & mortar space in the food & beverage industry… in San Francisco, of all places? Especially in this economy?!!

Jessica Bell (), that’s who.

During the early days of the pandemic, while helping her sister through the end of her life and questioning a career that no longer felt right, Jess found herself returning to the simplest rituals: sharing a meal, opening a bottle of w**e, and laughing around a table.

Those moments became the start of something that’s since developed into something much bigger. 👉

Jess didn’t want to create another destination w**e bar, or coworking hotspot in the technology hub of the world.

Instead, she pictured as the kind of place where neighbors became regulars. Where first dates go on for hours with sneaky make out sessions in a moody booth. And where belonging mattered more than what was in the glass.

(Though she wanted to make sure that what was in the glass was pretty special, too!) 👉

By innovatively partnering with local cult-favorite to launch a “roommate-style” co-op, Fat Cat & The Mantis has been a smashing success since opening their shared doors in April 2026.

The staff know their regulars, and conversations ping-pong across the bar. Wines are made by q***r and underrepresented vintners. The food is a beautiful homage to the local Vietnamese diaspora.

And bright pink walls, leopard-print chopsticks, vintage tchotchkes, disco balls, and oversized wedges of cheese remind you not to take any of it too seriously. 👉

It turns out that, in a city dominated by obsession with agents and AI, the people are hungry to just feel human.

And Fat Cat & The Mantis is the place giving folks permission to just be.
