After unsuccessful appeals, Leroy McGill is scheduled to be executed later today in the state of Arizona. He was sentenced to death for the murder of Charles Perez.

In one of his appeals, he claimed ineffective assistance of counsel, arguing that the trial counsel ineffectively presented evidence concerning childhood abuse, his addiction, and other issues. If executed, he would become the state's first exeuction this year.

Texas executed its 600th inmate since 1976

Yesterday, Edward Busby was executed in Texas as the US Supreme Court lifted the temporary stay on his ex*****on. His case continues to raise concerns due to claims and evidence of intellectual disability. It is already established that executing intellectually disabled defendants would be unconstitutional.

Edward is the state's 600th inmate to be executed since the reinstatement of the death penalty in the US, and Texas remains the country's top executing state. His final words were, "I am so sorry for what happened. … Miss Crane was a lovely
woman. I never meant anything bad to happen to her. I’ll take the blame if it will help."
