✅ FACT: A change in Prime Minister could mean a change to the Government's strategy on animal testing.

That change could be positive, negative, or it could mean no change at all. Andy Burnham has not yet publicly set out his views on animal testing, which means there's still a lot we don't know.

Phasing out animal testing was included in Labour's manifesto, so it's likely the Government will continue working in this area.

💡What we do know is that this change gives us an important opportunity:

Andy Burnham has brought in a new Cabinet and ministerial team, giving us a chance to make the case for Herbie's Law to a new group of decision-makers and potentially secure support at the highest levels of government.

A huge congratulations to Hayley and her four-legged teammate, Ollie, who have completed our Herbie's Heroes 100km Challenge! 🎉

Hayley powered through her kilometres in July, including plenty of walks while on holiday in beautiful Cornwall, all whilst raising money to help create a future free from animal testing.

But is it enough? 💭

Yesterday, the Government unveiled a £22 million package to support human-specific research and technologies, including:

🔬 A new £20 million centre to grow miniature human organs for testing medicines
🫀 Projects developing beating human heart cells in a dish
🤖 AI systems that predict how drugs move through the body

This is a significant step in the right direction, and one we've long been calling for.

But while investment in animal-free innovation is welcome, the transition away from animal testing must happen faster.

Every year, millions of animals continue to be used in experiments.

That's why we're urging the Government to back Herbie's Law - a clear framework to accelerate the adoption of modern, human-specific science.

Progress is happening. Now let's pick up the pace 🐾
