⛵️ The final single from the Purcell Singers' “hugely entertaining” new album is out now!

🎧 Listen to “All things are quite silent” by Kerry Andrew on all digital platforms ➡️ https://listn.fm/aspotlessrose/

Dr. Kerry Andrew originally wrote their atmospheric setting of the folksong “All things are quite silent” to perform using a loop station, gradually layering the sounds of the sea with fragments of the tune that they found in an old book of English folksongs. The dark text of the song explores a girl who loses her love to the sea, and the sounds of the sea are ever-present throughout the piece. Whilst the last verse seems superficially optimistic, eventually the voice of the girl is overwhelmed by the cracking, swirling and whistling of the sea and her love is lost forever…

“hugely entertaining, sometimes mysterious and melancholy, at other times energetic. Conductors Jonathan Schranz and Mark Ford can be proud of what they have achieved here. It's an intriguing programme from a disciplined choral group whose dedication to diction, pitch, and general musicality is razor sharp.” —Classical Music Daily on The Purcell Singers' “A Spotless Rose”.
