Today, we hold the people of the DRC in our prayers.

Rev Martin Gordon, Bishop of Goma in the Province of the Anglican Church of the Congo, shares how churches are responding to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

🙏 Rooted in their communities and trusted by those they serve, churches are uniquely placed to bring hope at a time of great uncertainty.

Churches are showing the way. By practising prevention, they're helping spread life-saving messages through their communities.

Our partners are distributing hygiene kits and mobilising pastors and priests to share life-saving prevention messages in churches, schools and markets.

Over half of the population are facing extreme hunger and high rates of acute malnutrition.

The Upper Nile state, North-East of South Sudan has been declared “phase five” on the global hunger index – meaning those living there are experiencing catastrophic hunger conditions and acute malnutrition.

It’s the only place in the world outside of Gaza to be given this classification.

“Every day we meet people who have lost everything - their homes, their livelihoods, their sense of safety. They arrive in South Sudan hoping for refuge, only to find hunger and hardship waiting for them,” said Christian Aid's South Sudan Programme and Partnership Lead, James Wani.

We’re working with partners to support families facing food insecurity. In Upper Nile, through local charities we’re providing dignity kits and specialist support to over 26,000 people.

This week, we're saying thank you to our 7,000 volunteers who are at the heart of change 💖

One of them is Meg. Last year she won the Prophetic Activist Award at our Power of Hope Awards, recognising her bold, compassionate commitment to justice and to speaking truth to power.

As a standout in our 2023–24 Prophetic Activist Scheme, Meg led with energy and care, encouraging others and driving projects forward. She's since launched a local organising group and led workshops and community campaigns.

Meg still supports Christian Aid through blogs, zines and public speaking.

Meg says: 'Volunteering is a brilliant way to get involved in the community and build connections. I'd recommend any young person to try it – to find connection in an age of disconnect.'

We're proud to celebrate Meg and everyone who gives their time to Christian Aid.

Comment ‘AMEN’ if you’re praying with us.

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has seen hundreds of suspected cases and deaths. And numbers are climbing.

We may be far away but we're not helpless - we can pray.

Join us as we bring this crisis before God, lifting up the sick, the grieving and the incredible people working to stop this disease spreading further🙏

🚨 We’ve launched an appeal to help communities affected by the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). A region already at breaking point.

There are no approved vaccines and no specific treatment for this strain.

So, prevention is the only thing standing between communities and disease.

Salome Ntububa, Head of Global Humanitarian Response, Christian Aid, said:

“...Ebola is not just a health emergency. It is a crisis layered onto conflict, displacement, and poverty - intensifying decades of humanitarian, social, and economic hardship.”

We're working urgently with trusted partners to raise awareness, amplify health messages and fight the misinformation that puts lives at risk.

We need to act now to save lives and prevent the crisis from getting worse.

Every prayer and every gift will offer hope to communities in the DRC. Please donate what you can today: https://caid.org.uk/ckz

Every single day presents new questions for families living in extreme poverty.

Poverty is an outrage against humanity.

We pray for a world free from poverty and for the courage to help make it possible 🙏

Comment ‘AMEN’ if you’re praying with us.

To pray for justice is to open our hearts to the voices too often ignored.

Christian Aid Week may be over but we continue to listen deeply, act boldly and hold onto hope.

Alongside communities building a better future every day🙏

A deadly strain of Ebola is spreading through communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Join us in praying for all those affected 🙏

Loving God, you see us and know us.
You are present with us in times of suffering.
We pray to you for all people affected by the Ebola outbreak.
Comfort those who are ill,
Sustain those who grieve,
Watch over those who deliver care.
We pray for the safety and health of our partners and medical staff as they treat those affected.
We pray for strength for communities and families in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
We pray that breakthroughs will come swiftly as new vaccines and treatments are developed.
We pray that the world would unite to take action and to support our global neighbours.
Loving God, we ask this in Jesus’ name.
Amen

💬 ‘I don't know how I’ll feed my family.’

Fridah is a recently widowed grandmother living in Nairobi, Kenya.

She's the sole provider for her family and every morning brings fresh uncertainty.

But through Imarisha Kilimo, an urban farming project run by our partner, Beacon of Hope, Fridah has turned a tiny unused space into a source of food, income and pride.

'Urban farming has changed my life.'

Funds raised beyond the immediate need will support our wider global work, enabling us to respond to emerging crises and continue fighting poverty in communities around the world.
