Most deaths from postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) are preventable, yet PPH remains one of the leading causes of maternal death worldwide. Solutions already exist. The challenge now is turning evidence into action.

Drawing on their experience advocating for improved PPH guidelines and care provision in Kenya, Dr Benjamin Odongo Elly and colleagues share practical recommendations to help OBGYN societies strengthen advocacy, influence policy and improve PPH prevention, detection and response.

Today marks World Postpartum Haemorrhage Day and one year since the launch of the WHO-FIGO-ICM consolidated guidelines for preventing, diagnosing and treating postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).

To mark the occasion, FIGO has published a new call to action in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, urging member societies to accelerate efforts to prevent, diagnose and treat one of the leading causes of maternal death worldwide.

The call highlights four areas for action: advocate, implement, empower and collaborate.

The FIGO Committee on Women at Menopausal Age, in collaboration with the International Menopause Society (IMS), has published a joint position paper in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO) calling for a globally coordinated effort to strengthen awareness, professional education and research on premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and early menopause (EM).

The paper seeks to ensure equitable access to multidisciplinary care, with the goal of improving women's health and supporting the long-term sustainability of healthcare systems.
