🌍 Global health is about learning from each other.

Alicia Jackson, medical student and Global Health Leadership Programme delegate, reflects on the value of peer to peer conversations, both within the travelling team and with local healthcare providers in Bangladesh.

These conversations provide a rich source of education, inspiration and shared learning.

Alongside understanding the academic foundations of healthcare delivery in Bangladesh, the Global Health Leadership Programme is about seeing healthcare firsthand: understanding how services are delivered in practice, learning from local healthcare professionals, and exploring the realities, challenges and opportunities within a different health system.

It is this combination of academic learning, practical experience, cultural immersion and peer to peer exchange that sits at the heart of the programme.

Not a doctor? Not based in the UK? Yes, you can still apply for the Global Health Leadership Programme. 🌍

You do not need to be a doctor. What matters is a clear and evidenced commitment to global health.

We welcome applications from healthcare professionals across the wider multidisciplinary team. You will always be expected to act within your own scope of practice. The programme is primarily about learning, understanding global health in context and developing your leadership, while supporting locally led work.

We are particularly conscious of the risks of transient healthcare. This is not about arriving for a week and trying to supersede local healthcare. It is about learning from local colleagues, building sustainable partnerships and contributing appropriately within established local systems.

Not based in the UK? You can still apply. You will need to:

🌍 Be eligible to obtain the appropriate visa and arrange this yourself
🌍 Commit to the £1,500 fundraising target, excluding travel and other costs

If you can meet those requirements, we would be very happy to receive your application.

🇧🇩 Meet the people behind the Selfless Global Health Leadership Programme.

Introducing our Country Managing Director, Md Mujibus Samad Chowdhury, affectionately known to generations of Selfless delegates as “Mama”.

Mama has been facilitating our visits to Bangladesh since our inaugural programme in 2009 and remains a key part of the Selfless family.

Ethical and sustainable global health work depends on strong local partnerships. For Selfless, that means genuine connections with our team on the ground, an understanding of the Bangladeshi healthcare system, and relationships that continue long after each programme ends.

Many of our past delegates will remember Mama fondly. His experience, local knowledge and longstanding relationships are an important part of both the Global Health Leadership Programme experience and the sustainability of our work in Bangladesh.
