Hi All, it's Kirsty with you this evening... I'm sure you've all seen the fantastic news today and how amazing this break through is 😁
In March 2012 I first heard about the programme. I reached out to the team and was invited to the Lister Hospital for a chat and to go through what a Womb Transplant actually was and meant!
As soon as I got home I created this page, as I knew it would be a main pathway to raise awareness and ultimately help us raise funds, which we so really needed. Myself and other MRKH girls arranged fundraisers, we united as one to be heard and help our goal of becoming mothers one day! I have met some friends for life through this programme and MRKH, the bonds we have are incredible. Seeing the funds start to raise, added fire to our bellies and we did anything we could, newspapers, media, radio!! We just wanted this charity to be a success!
In March 2016 I was asked if I'd like to be a potential candidate on the trials, I did not hesitate saying YES. I passed the initial criteria with flying colours and was added to the list of the first 10 UK patients!... I was back and forth to London over the coming months for tests and bloods etc.
In May 2016, I had a routine MRI scan that showed a pelvic kidney which couldnt be moved, this hadn't shown upon previous MRI scans. This unfortunately meant I couldn't carry on with the programme and I lost my place. I still remember to this day, the gutted look one of the Drs of the team gave me, he was genuinely devastated for me.
As my healing process began and the fear of never becoming a mum started all over again, there were progress in Womb Transplants across the globe.. science making history! I was contacted by the team to say if I didnt want to continue with social media awareness raising and keeping this page live, then they were fully supportive if that were to be my choice.
Me being me, turned this into a positive. Why would I want to close down a page I've spent time building the awareness for? Nope wasn't happening... so I compromised and agreed the UK team could become admins on here. It worked, i didn't have to update or post as much or at all. They kept posting all the facts and updates and we were still aiming for our goal!
In August 2023 we all got the fantastic news when the first ever UK transplant was performed, this was a huge break through for us! Overwhelming, amazing achievement!!
Lets forward today, 8th April 2025... we get the news that the UK team have made scientific history and a delivered the first ever baby born via a Womb Transplant!!!
This is why I created this page, this is why i chose to stay here, a voice for our MRKH (born without a womb) community, this is our future!!
Now I need to stop my joyus tears, and look forward to the next lot of transplant surgeries, which will bring more miracle babies!!
Please all join me in congratulating fellow MRKH'er, Grace.. your miracle has happened, your dream has come true.. I am extremely happy for you. Also a huge well done and massive thank you to the whole medical team who are just amazing, wonderful and extremely talented 👏
Baby Amy, welcome to the world darling girl, you are our proof that dreams do come true ✨️💗
