Project Masoandro is SEED Madagascar’s solar energy programme, designed to improve access to clean, affordable electricity in rural southeast Madagascar 🇲🇬

Through school-based energy systems powering social Light Libraries, the project helps power learning, supports evening study, and improves access to essential resources in remote communities.

Now, SEED Madagascar is building on this foundation by investing in the people at the heart of education: teachers 🧡

Only 17% of teachers in Madagascar hold a formal pedagogical qualification, and in many rural areas teachers begin their roles with little or no structured training or ongoing professional support.

Through a new initiative, SEED Madagascar will support 37 teachers across five rural schools with practical training on teaching methods and French language skills, alongside in-classroom follow-up, safeguarding support, and gender-based violence prevention 💜 This programme will help strengthen classroom confidence and improve learning outcomes for more than 1,700 students 📚

We were delighted to recently welcome one of SEED Madagascar’s trustees, Rebecca, to Fort Dauphin 🌿

Rebecca spent time meeting teams and learning more about our Agroforestry, Community Health, and Schools programmes across the Anosy region.

Reflecting on her visit, she shared:

“It was an honour and a real pleasure to spend time at our incredible projects in Madagascar. Leading the HR and Safeguarding audits alongside our incredible team gave me a deeper appreciation of the impact they create every day. The visit was moving, inspiring and made me proud to be a trustee of SEED Madagascar.”

Thank you to Rebecca, and all of our trustees, for their continued support and dedication 🧡

Yesterday, to celebrate , SEED’s Project Mampisaina team visited schools in Taolagnaro to raise awareness about menstrual health and sexual and reproductive health rights ( ) among young girls 🧡

Through interactive games, discussions, and activities, the team created a safe and engaging space for students to learn, ask questions, and build confidence around topics that are too often surrounded by stigma 📚

🇲🇬 Our team in works to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people at the critical age of sexual debut and into adulthood, with a particular focus on preventing HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Together, we can help ensure that young people have the knowledge and support they need to make informed choices for their health and future 🌍

Help protect the Centre Médical de Taolagnaro - officiel 🧡

Dr Jane founded the clinic 14 years ago and since then, has provided healthcare services to the town, supporting many SEED Madagascar staff and volunteers along the way.

Now, the clinic is fundraising to secure the land it operates from so it can continue delivering services including maternal healthcare, childhood vaccinations, malaria treatment, and community healthcare programmes.

Every contribution will help protect healthcare access, local jobs, and the future of this important community resource.

Last week, SEED Madagascar was delighted to welcome the Australian High Commission in Mauritius to southeast Madagascar 🇲🇬🌿

As supporters of Project Ala, the visit provided an opportunity to meet with the team in Sainte Luce, see ongoing activities in the field, and learn more about the work being carried out alongside local communities to restore and protect Madagascar’s unique littoral forests 🌱🌴

Visits like these are a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships, share learning, and connect directly with the realities of programme delivery on the ground.

Thank you for visiting, we hope to welcome you back soon 🧡

Our Community Health Champion ⭐

“Awareness is the key. Without it, people cannot recognise violence,” says Espérante, who leads on gender-based violence prevention and response and sexual and reproductive health and rights at SEED Madagascar.

In a recent interview, she shared how social norms in southeast can limit women’s rights and access to legal, medical, and social support. Early and forced marriages and sexual violence remain significant concerns, while reporting and response systems in rural areas are often limited.

Through Project Mampisaina, SEED is working to empower young people with knowledge and skills on sexual and reproductive health, while strengthening the foundations for effective gender-based violence response.

Thank you, Espérante, for your continued commitment to promoting equality and supporting communities 🧡

Learning together to grow stronger harvests 🌱

As part of the Saha Sekoly expansion, farmers from Mahatalaky and Tsagnoriha have been taking part in agroforestry training workshops.

During the sessions, participants explored practical techniques including:
🔄 Crop rotation
🌱 Crop association
🌾 Planning how to use their land effectively

A total of 23 farmers have now taken part in training, with each developing their own land-use plan to guide future planting.

By building skills alongside communities, the project supports long-term, sustainable farming practices that benefit both people and the 🌿🇲🇬

Community participation is central to the Oratsimba Project 🌊

Marine Management Committees from three coastal communities are coming together to begin discussions on creating a shared platform for collaboration.

The first meeting introduced the concept, explored how the platform could support sustainable marine resource management, and gathered feedback from committee members. Participants shared their perspectives and ideas, ensuring the platform reflects their needs and priorities.

By involving communities at every stage, SEED Madagascar supports locally driven solutions that strengthen sustainable fisheries and marine resource management🦞🇲🇬
