"What I enjoy most about volunteering is working together."

Meet Linda, one of our wonderful volunteers, whose story we're highlighting for Volunteers' Week.

"I’ve gained the opportunity to make a difference from volunteering. The opportunity to speak to like-minded volunteers.

"I have gained a sense of belonging from volunteering. The feeling of doing good by helping others, being a voice representing the Parkinson’s community that may be less able, shy, or have got enough going on in their own lives dealing with their symptoms to be actively seeking a better model of care.

"The only way we are going to achieve a greater understanding of our complex symptoms, and raise awareness of what we actually need care wise moving forward, is by campaigning for changes via government policies and legislation.

"Volunteering has also given me a sense of worth, and gives me a feeling of making a difference and still feeling useful."

Our volunteers do amazing things. From helping at our events to supporting our research. We're so proud to spotlight the incredible work our volunteers do to raise awareness, and improve the lives of people living with Parkinson's.

Today is the start of Volunteers’ Week, the annual UK-wide campaign held from the first Monday in June to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

For Parkinson’s UK, it’s an opportunity to shine a light on the over 4,300 volunteers who generously give their time to improve life for people with Parkinson’s and to say a huge thank you.

By sharing their time, energy and skills 365 days a year, they help us to achieve incredible things. Volunteers’ Week is a focus for celebrating every single volunteer and every single moment of time that volunteers donate.

To recognise all volunteers do at Parkinson’s UK, we are sharing our (virtual notice board) of thanks with volunteers and colleagues this week. Take a look and be inspired by the messages and videos. -https://padlet.com/gifisher/volunteers-week-2026-thanking-our-volunteers-8swkfvu64q6qgjks
