Here's your reminder of how incredible girls are for 🧡

In the North of Somalia, many families cannot afford to send their children to school.

Halima and Sumaya are being raised by their grandmother who has to choose between feeding her family or educating them.

Despite not going to school, the girls have taught themselves to read and write by watching other children and they love learning more than playing.

Girls around the world have so much potential. At CARE we want to make sure everyone knows it.

One year on from the Gaza ceasefire, Palestinians are paying the price of its failure.

“More than 1,400 people have been killed since it took effect. Every one of them was a person with a name, a family and a future cut cruelly short.

Airstrikes and shelling by the Israeli Government, supported in part by British arms sales, remain the primary cause of these deaths.

Israel’s unlawful occupation also means mean women and girls are facing escalating violence, giving birth without medical care, and carrying the overwhelming burden of keeping their families alive, often on their own.

The UK Government must immediately halt all arms sales to Israel and ensure aid reaches the women and their communities on the ground fighting to survive.”

In a crisis, women eat least and last.

This is happening in Yemen right now. As the escalation has forced 201,217 from their homes, families are now living in displacement camps with little or no basic services available to them.

We've seen time and time again that, when disaster strikes, women are the first to pick up the pieces. To provide for their families even if it means ignoring their own needs.

The recent escalation in Yemen has displaced over 148,000 people in September alone, with families forced to leave their family members, homes and belongings behind.

This is a rapidly growing humanitarian emergency on top of what was already one of the world's largest crises.

Women are fleeing fighting while pregnant. Children are no longer attending school. Displacement camps are growing.

You refused to look away. And your voice was heard.

In his speech at the Labour Party Conference today, the Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband acknowledged the millions of people across the UK and beyond who have been moved and outraged by the plight of Palestinians:

"We hear you. You were right."

He announced that the UK Government has 'reset' its approach to Gaza and the West Bank, and has promised to 'match words with action'.

This is a reminder that our actions can make a difference. Thank you to everyone who has stood with Palestine, supported our humanitarian appeals for Gaza and kept their voices loud to demand change.

The fight for Palestinian rights is far from over. But together, we will keep going.

Today The Guardian has reported that the current El Nino is projected to cause 450,000 deaths in the next six months.

This devastating figure is on top of the deaths resulting from temperatures already driven up by climate change.

The Top 10 countries most affected are in the Global South. They are the ones contributing the least to the climate crisis, and yet, they are feeling the worst of its impacts.

CARE is already working in these countries, responding in communities to mitigate the impacts before crisis strikes.

Good things are happening around the world - like the RISE project in Ethiopia!

CARE has been working in Ethiopia since 1984 following drought and famine. Today the RISE project is aiming to bring safe, sustainable water and sanitation to over 50,000 people.

During its first year, 8,000 community members have gained access to safe drinking water which has transformed lives and futures, particularly for women and girls.

Now women are also receiving agricultural training and taking a stronger role in local decision-making.

It's because of the support from the players of the Postcode Lottery, that CARE is able to provide training and resources that are changing women's lives🧡

South Kordofan is one of the states hardest hit by Sudan's humanitarian crisis.

It has become an area that is hard for aid to reach due to intense conflict and severe weather that makes certain infrastructure impassable.

Despite this, CARE is continuing to serve the communities there.
