APPLICATION information can be found on our Darwin Community Arts website.

Our Gallery is for hire to community groups, artist groups & individual artists. Our exhibition program strives to be inclusive of all artists, including people of all communities, cultures, abilities, ages, sexuality, and faiths. First Nations artists are encouraged to apply.

Exhibition program runs from March – November annually, each exhibition runs for 12 exhibiting days over a 3 week period.

Call out closes: Wednesday 2 December 2026, midnight

What comes first: the ‘art’ or the ‘audience’?

In an age where everything is ‘artist-led’ and financial risk is subsidised by the government, have we forgotten our audiences? If audiences are considered first, does the work actually become ‘less risky’?

Join Amy Hetherington - Comedy, Uncle Dr Richard Fejo Snr, Albert Belz - Playwright, Screenwriter, Dramaturge, Raconteur and Brown’s Mart to set fire to this triggering topic!

This evening Critical Conversations gives the platform to commercial comedians who consider risk, audience and art and the ability to pay their bills when they create their shows. Like a punchier version of Sliding Doors, 3 comedians will share material they create with their audiences in mind followed by the material they really want to do, before a candid, and (likely) hilarious dive into the topic: Audience < Art ?

Back again for 2026, at a time when the world seems to be all about absolutes and division, some of Darwin’s leading arts organisations have come together to create CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS.

At Darwin Community Arts, we believe equality starts from within. Every staff member — from the CEO to the cleaner — is paid the same hourly rate.

We also run as a holacracy, which means there’s no traditional hierarchy. Instead, we all share responsibility for managing and running the organisation together.

Because to make and share art for a fairer, more habitable world begins with fair workplaces.

In loving memory of Andy Ewing

We’re proud to share that Andy Ewing created both the Darwin Community Arts logo and the Arts Access logo — designs that continue to represent creativity, inclusion and community every day.

Andy was a much-loved artist and advocate whose contribution to the Northern Territory art community was significant and lasting. He was also a strong and valued member of the q***r community, bringing visibility and generosity to the spaces he was part of.

His work lives on in the visual identity of our organisations, and his impact lives on in the many artists, friends and communities he inspired.

This AusArt Day, Darwin Community Arts (DCA) is putting the spotlight where it belongs: on the artists and communities who make our work possible.

Fun fact 🌿

The mural in our Mudul-ma studio was painted by Cyan Sue-Lee and Mikayla Lee, Gulumerridjin (Larrakia) sisters and multidisciplinary artists. Mudul-ma is both the name of the artwork and our studio - and it’s a Larrakia word for mangrove forest.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to untitled gallery+studio on Sunday to help screen print the 2027 Homegrown T-shirts, tea towels and totes.

It was so exciting to see the first prints come off the press - they sparked a spontaneous round of applause!

A special thank you to Jonathan Munro for generously sharing his skills as facilitator once again, and for patiently keeping us on track with quality control.

We’re also incredibly grateful to the fantastic team of volunteers working behind the scenes to prepare designs, collate materials, set up, pack up and make it all happen. Thank you, Gabe, Georgina, Tisha Tejaya, Maddy, Georgia, Gill for your support, as well as the community artists who have generously shared their wonderful artworks. ❤️

Look out for the 2027 Homegrown range, on sale from November at the Rapid Creek Markets and Justine Davis MLA Office. These beautiful, locally created products make the best Xmas presents and also give back to our community.

Funds raised through these products go straight back into our community through the Community Benefit Fund, supporting local schools and organisations across the electorate.

Homegrown is a project of Justine Davis MLA and supported by Intermingle, Darwin Community Arts.

Darwin is home to one of Australia’s largest mural festivals ! Over the years, Darwin's parks, toilets and buildings have been transformed by incredible murals created by our Free Space Studio collective and DCA staff Tarzan, Amina and Shay.
