1,000 animals who have been saved ❤️

🐾 1,000 ANIMALS. 🐾
Today, Save A Paw NT reached a milestone that is honestly a little hard for us to wrap our heads around. 1,000 animals have now come into our care. 🤍
When we started Save A Paw NT in February 2024, we really had no idea what it would become. We were just people who loved animals, saw a need in our community and wanted to do something to help.
And somehow, that has turned into 1,000 animals.
Some of those 1,000 have come with stories we honestly couldn’t have made up if we tried.
We’ve had animals rushed into care needing emergency blood transfusions because they were so heavily covered in ticks. We’ve cared for dogs with shattered bones, horrific wounds and injuries that required major surgery, followed by weeks or months of recovery. We’ve taken in tiny bottle babies needing feeds around the clock, and entire litters that suddenly turned someone’s spare bathroom into a makeshift nursery.
We’ve had animals arrive so frightened of people that simply being approached sent them into a panic and watched them slowly learn that a hand reaching towards them could mean kindness instead of fear.
We’ve had dogs collected from pounds with hours left to find somewhere to go, while we frantically searched for a foster carer willing to say yes.
We’ve had flood kittens, bush dogs, escape artists, medical mysteries, enormous vet bills, midnight emergencies and more than a few animals who have made us wonder “how on earth are we going to pull this one off?”
We’ve driven hundreds of kilometres, gone out bush, coordinated last-minute transports and rearranged our lives more times than we could ever count.
There have been some absolutely wild stories amongst those 1,000 animals.
Some have made us laugh. Some have made us cry. Some have made us angry.And some have made us wonder how they survived long enough to reach us.
But somehow, one animal at a time, we’ve figured it out.
And behind every crazy intake story is an animal who deserved the chance to have a much better one written next. 🤍
We’ve celebrated incredible recoveries, beautiful adoptions and some very happy endings but we’ve also had our hearts broken along the way.
But every single one of those 1,000 lives mattered.
And while our name might be attached to that number, this achievement belongs to an entire community:
🐾To our foster carers who have opened their homes over and over again, sometimes with only a few hours’ notice.
🐾 To our volunteers who give their time behind the scenes, at events, on transports and wherever else we need them.
🐾 To the veterinary teams who work alongside us to give our animals the care they need.
🐾 To the councils, pounds, businesses and organisations who work with us.
🐾 To every person who has adopted a Save A Paw animal and given them the life we hoped they would find.
And to every single person who has donated, shared a post, attended a fundraiser, bought a raffle ticket, dropped off supplies, offered transport, sent us an encouraging message or supported us in any way…
You are part of this 1,000 too.
Save A Paw NT doesn’t have a shelter.
Every animal we take into care relies on someone in our community saying, “They can stay with me.”
And somehow, together, we’ve managed to say yes 1,000 times. 🥹
We know there will be animal number 1,001. And 1,002. And many, many more who will need us. But today, we’re going to take a moment to appreciate just how far this little rescue has come.
1,000 animals cared for since February 2024.
1,000 lives.
1,000 stories.
1,000 reasons why we keep doing what we do. 🤍🐾
