DIMS Men’s Cultural Healing Retreat Camp 2025
DIMS was able to get our clients out on country, taking them for 3 days camping out Dundee way. The participants were excited to be attending and for most it was their first trip out bush for a long time, so the opportunity to take a break from the stresses of living in town was very appealing to them. On arriving at camp morning tea was prepared and everyone settled into a cup of tea, coffee and biscuits then a briefing of the program and activities, and the dos and don’ts, for the camp and some familiarisation with the location and each other. Over the 3 days the men participated in yarning circles, cultural experience fishing and provided good healthy down timing, realising the stresses of town. The men were taken down to Dundee Coast inside and to the Finniss River for a look and then the beach for a spot the men were able to sit down totally relax, destress, enjoy the sea breeze and have a good yarn about things going on in their lives and reflect on their situations. Participants also took time to simply sit and relax and meditate on the beach, enjoying the view and sea breeze as a form of indigenous mindfulness activity which allowed the men to focus and yarn at the same time or apply their mind to distract them from the stresses in town. We even got to catch some crabs the men were very happy to take a feed of crab home
