What could a visit from Vietnam mean for Vietnamese students in the NT?

On 2 October, a delegation of around 20 from Gia Lai Province met Charles Darwin University leaders to discuss cooperation. Ideas on the table included:

• Scholarships, short courses and joint degree programs
• Links between CDU and Quy Nhon University in lecturer training, English, STEM and AI
• Joint research in tropical agriculture, aquaculture and biosecurity
• A study into charter flights between Darwin and Gia Lai, and a possible friendship relationship with the City of Darwin

These are early discussions, not signed agreements, but they point to more opportunities between Vietnam and the Territory. We will share updates as they come.

Our association was proud to be part of the visit. Delegation leader Mr Thai Dai Ngoc, Secretary of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee, presented gifts to CDU VSA and to NOVAS – Northern Territory Vietnamese Student Association, launched three days earlier by a founding committee headed by our President, Will Nguyen.

Thank you to our committee, whose work behind the scenes makes moments like this possible: Thái Bùi Xuân Thanh Quyen (Andy) Nguyen Trang Dao Khanh Tran Nhat Minh (Thomas) Tran Ton

Thank you also to Professor Coulson, Interim Vice-Chancellor and President, and the Darwin University team for hosting, and to the of Darwin and Darwin Port for welcoming the delegation.

A warm and memorable evening with our Vietnamese student community at CDU 🇻🇳❤️

A heartfelt thank you to Mr -Anh Pham and Mr Thanh for taking the time to join us for such a warm and meaningful dinner with Vietnamese international students in Darwin.

What made the evening even more special was knowing that after just landing in Darwin, the two gentlemen went straight to meet and connect with the Vietnamese student community here. It was truly touching to see the time, attention and genuine care given to Vietnamese students who are studying and living away from home.

For many of us, being international students means building a new life far from Vietnam. That is why opportunities like this — to sit together, share a meal, have conversations and feel connected to our wider Vietnamese community — are incredibly meaningful.

Thank you again, Mr Hai-Anh Pham and Mr Thanh from General of Vietnam in Perth, for your kindness and for showing such genuine interest in the Vietnamese student community in Darwin.

Wishing you both a successful and productive working trip in Darwin. I hope there will be more opportunities in the near future for us to connect, collaborate and support your delegation and future initiatives.
Looking forward to welcoming you back to Darwin again soon! 🇻🇳🤝🇦🇺

A little afternoon for connection, sharing & self-care 💜🌸

What a lovely afternoon at our **Women’s Health & Wellbeing** event!

With around 11 female students joining us, we spent nearly 2 hours talking, sharing experiences and getting to know each other. From women’s health and wellbeing to student life and living in Darwin, the conversations were open, honest and full of useful experiences.

And of course, we also had some creative fun with our rock painting activity! 🎨

A huge thank you to Le from Red Cross for spending the afternoon with us and sharing valuable information and support with our students. 💜

Thank you to our VSA Committee members Ngoc Quyen Nguyen, Thu Trang Dao and the team for helping bring this collaboration to life.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along and made the space so warm and welcoming. We look forward to seeing you at our next event! 🌷
