๐ŸŒŸ Meet our next 2026 NAWIC NT Trailblazer ๐ŸŒŸ

Announcing Leisha Armstrong as one of our amazing trailblazers at this year's annual trailblazers event, having won the Leadership & Mentoring award at previous NAWIC awards she is the perfect person to hear from on the night! ๐Ÿ‘

Leisha Armstrong has built her career proving what disciplined leadership and operational sharpness can do for an NT construction business. As former owner and Director of Johnny Cool Darwin, she led the company through transformation and successfully sold the business. Leisha now brings that hands-on experience to her role as Executive Manager โ€“ Operations & Systems at Northern Transportables, one of the NT's leading modular construction businesses. As the only woman on a seven-person Executive Leadership Team, she's turning strategy into structure: implementing systems, streamlining workflows, leading change across departments, and embedding the operating rhythms that let teams deliver consistently.

Backed by an MBA and recognised twice by NAWIC NT (Mentoring and Leadership 2023; Crystal Vision 2022), Leisha is a fierce advocate for women claiming their seat at the table in construction โ€” and living proof of what that looks like.

The NAWIC NT Chapter Strategic Planning Day gave us the opportunity to reflect, challenge ourselves and align on how we can better support women in construction across the Northern Territory.

As volunteers, giving up a Sunday isn't always easy when work, family and other commitments are competing for our time. What stood out was the passion around the table and the genuine commitment from our committee to continue driving positive outcomes for women in our industry.

A huge thank you to Bron Stephens for facilitating the session, keeping us on track and guiding some valuable discussions.
Thank you to all our committee members who continue to volunteer their time, energy and passion to strengthen our industry.

If you want to join our committee please reach out: [email protected]

๐ŸŒŸ Meet our first 2026 NAWIC NT Trailblazer ๐ŸŒŸ

Weโ€™re proud to announce Trenna Gibsone as the first featured Trailblazer for the 2026 NAWIC NT Trailblazers Event. ๐Ÿ‘

Trenna brings extensive hands-on experience across the private and public sectors and now contributes her expertise within the not-for-profit space. Her career has spanned a diverse range of roles, from contract administration through to workforce planning and development.

Currently serving as General Manager of Apprenticeships Northern Territory, Trenna leads the delivery and management of apprenticeships and traineeships across the Territory, overseeing teams in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs to strengthen workforce outcomes across the region.

Passionate about increasing opportunities for women in trades, particularly within construction and other traditionally male-dominated industries, Trenna is a strong advocate for creating inclusive pathways that encourage and support women entering the sector.

With significant experience working on major construction projects in Darwin and Katherine โ€” often as the only female on site โ€” Trenna understands firsthand the challenges and culture of the industry. Her ongoing connection to construction continues through supporting her partnerโ€™s construction business outside of work.

Her leadership, advocacy and commitment to supporting the next generation make her a true Trailblazer. โœจ

Thatโ€™s not just a statistic.
Itโ€™s a signal that thereโ€™s more work to be done.

Real change doesnโ€™t happen by chance. It happens through education, stronger networks, visible leadership, and a shared commitment to creating respectful, inclusive workplaces.

By equipping people with the right tools, backing each other on site, and continuing the conversation, we can shift the culture of our industry, together.

Building better workplaces means building an industry where everyone belongs.

Share with a woman you know in construction to let them know we see them, and we're here for them.
