AUSIL We exist to serve indigenous language communities in Australia and Timor.

The Australian Society for Indigenous Languages (AuSIL) is a faith based non-profit organisation committed to serving language communities as they pursue their goals for their languages and ethnolinguistic identity. We partner with communities in carrying out linguistic research and language documentation, translation, training, and the development of language resources.

This week we have teams from two Bible colleges in Sydney visiting us in Darwin. They've been such an encouragement as they've served and learnt more about ministry in the NT.

If you're interested in Bible translation or Indigenous ministry feel free to reach out to organise a visit.

Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia recently shared an article by one of our AuSIL members about Bible translation into the Tiwi language.
You can read more at

Lachlan Webb is a translation advisor and teacher of the Certificate II in Indigenous Translating to a group of Bible translators from the Tiwi Islands. How does he support their work without knowing much of the language? Find out!

We are so excited to welcome Minh to our team. Minh has started as our new Bookshop and Office Manager.
Minh came from Vietnam with her family. They decided to move to Darwin for education almost 2 years ago.
Minh is thankful to have the opportunity to join the AuSIL team as the Office and Bookshop Manager. We are praying that God will help Minh do her job well, and use her life for his purposes while her family is living here in Australia.

We are delighted to welcome Bek Moody to the AuSIL team today! Bek has joined us for a one-year internship run through MTS (Ministry Training Strategy) and part funded by Wycliffe Bible Translators Australia. Over the year she will work through the MTS training curriculum and gain practical experience in serving Indigenous language communities. Bek is looking forward to helping with the Plain English Version translation project, supporting the development of Kriol kids' resources, assisting with workshops, and whatever else comes her way over the year!

A couple of weeks ago we gathered new translators from 7 language groups to bring Mark 16:2-6 to life. Despite cyclone Fina cutting the workshop short, many groups finished their passages and shared them with their communities.
The Iwaidja team even created a claymation of the story, complete with audio from their translation — crafting clay figures, mapping the scenes, and filming it all.

This video tells a Bible story from Mark 16 in the Iwaidja language. Three women go to the place where they buried Jesus' body and an angel tells them that G...

AuSIL pop-up…

What a day!

We had a fantastic Scripture distribution event at Yirara College, where we set up a pop-up store alongside the Finke River Mission’s Bush Course.

It was a joy to connect with participants, sharing resources and meeting people from the community.

We’re excited about more opportunities to set up pop-up stores around Alice Springs.

Stay tuned for future dates and locations, and thank you to everyone who makes this work possible!

Caroline’s Calendars…
A beautiful blend of faith, language, and photographs!
We’re celebrating one of our AuSIL staff members who has created a Kriol Kelenda (calendar). These calendars feature Bible Scriptures in Kriol alongside photographs—bringing together the Word of God and the beauty of Country.
We're so proud of this work and the passion behind it. It’s a powerful reminder of how language and Scripture can come alive in everyday life. These are available in the AuSIL bookshop—fresh off the press.

Happy Bible translation day!
Give thanks with us that God has provided AuSIL with a new Director. Brian Spoelman (centre of photo) and his wife, Cindy, visited Darwin over the last couple of weeks. Please pray for them as they continue to learn about the Indigenous Australian context and the work that God is doing.
