Surf Life Saving Northern Territory

Surf Life Saving Northern Territory SLSNT is the NT's peak coastal water safety organisation.

SLSNT has around 1,000 volunteer members who patrol the Top End beaches each dry season and provide a year round marine search and rescue service. SLSNT also provides professional Lifeguard Services across Darwin and are available to provide first aid services at your next event.

Over 2,500km travelled - including 1,200km on red dirt roads!

Crossing waterways and navigating buffalo, donkeys, dingoes and wallabies along the way to reach the most remote Surf Life Saving Club in Australia:
Gove Peninsula Surf Life Saving Club in Nhulunbuy.

Thanks for the warm welcome and great turnout across the weekend for patrols, Nippers and Powercraft training.

A great result for the club, with 5 new IRB Crew, 4 new IRB Drivers and 5 new RWC Drivers qualified.

And as always, GPSLSC turned on a magical sunset to finish the weekend. ๐ŸŒ…๐Ÿ‘Œ

As we head into the long weekend please remember to swim between the flags and look out for each other along the coastline.

Our clubs and volunteer lifesavers are back rockin' the red and yellow so head down to a patrolled beach near you and enjoy a dip in a safer environment.

If you're a boatie make sure you check over safety kits before heading out and let someone know when you'll be returning.

Enjoy the glorious dry season long weekend and be safe! โคโค

๐Ÿ”ด๐ŸŸก FLAGS UP ๐Ÿ”ด๐ŸŸก

And just like that, the Top End has kicked off the patrolling season!

The season was officially marked yesterday with the Raising of the Flags at Nightcliff Beach, attended by a number of our volunteers, the Australian Lifeguard Service, and key community representatives, including the Lord Mayor of Darwin, the Honourable Peter Styles and Ed Smelt.

So, what does this mean for you?

A number of your favourite beaches are now patrolled during peak times by our dedicated Surf Life Saving volunteers and the Australian Lifeguard Service.

The safest place to swim is always between the red and yellow flags.

Lifeguard patrols
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Nightcliff Beach โ€“ Monday to Saturday, 2pmโ€“6pm
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Mindil Beach โ€“ Thursdays and Sundays, 2pmโ€“6pm

Volunteer patrols
๐Ÿ–๏ธ Darwin SLSC patrols both Casuarina and Nightcliff beaches on Sundays, with patrol times alternating between morning and afternoon.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Mindil Beach SLSC, will commence patrols on Saturday mornings from 6 June (9am - 1pm) and Sunday afternoons (2pm - 6pm) from 12 July at East Point Beach.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Gove Peninsula SLSC will also commence patrols - keep an eye on their socials for more information on their patrol times!

All clubs will be running Nippers this season, so get in touch with your local club for more information or send us a DM and we'll be happy to help.

Come and say hi when you're down at the beach ๐Ÿ˜Ž

And remember - always swim between the flags!

A huge shout out to our Search and Rescue lifesavers who have been busy continuing to keep our NT recreational water users safer over the past few months.

Since January the team have responded to 11 callouts ranging from towing in fishos who find themselves in a spot of trouble to a multi-day search supporting NT Police Search & Rescue over both land and sea.

A timely reminder to ensure to check over your craft and ensure you have the correct safety equipment onboard such as PFDs, EPIRB, 2x Paddles/Oars, 1x Bailer Bucket or Bilge Pump aboard your vessel to ensure you aren't pushed out seaward if disabled.

Well done to our volys who continue to give their time up for the Top End communtiy! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›
