Tuesday volunteer call-out! 🌱 Bring a Friend Week is looking pretty good on the volunteer front, but we still have one essential slot to fill for this Saturday:

➡️ 1 x Marshal

After that, the roster gets considerably more spacious! 😆 For Saturday 19 September, we still need:
➡️ 3 x Marshals

And looking ahead to Saturday 26 September:
⏱️ Timekeeper
📣 Funnel Manager
📲 3 x Barcode Scanners
➡️ 3 x Marshals
🚶‍♀️ Tail Walker

In October, pretty much take your pick! Comment below, message us or email [email protected] if you can help. ❤️

P.S. If anyone would like to sign up to help us deliver our First Birthday event on 17 October, we are standing by 🤗

🤝 It’s Bring a Friend Week at Woden Town!

Ken was introduced to parkrun by Coral two years ago while rehabbing an injury and working his way back to sprinting. What started as a gentle return quickly became a Saturday morning habit.

Since then, Ken has fallen in love with parkrun, and he and Coral now share the full parkrun experience together – the run, the volunteering and of course the post-parkrun coffee. Saturday mornings just wouldn’t be the same without it. ☕️

They also love meeting new people at the different parkruns they’ve visited and try to volunteer wherever they go – a great example of what parkrun is all about.

So this week, bring a friend! You never know where that first parkrun might lead. See you down at Woden Town 👋

Have you ever stopped to wonder how parkrun volunteers manage to record 300 or more finish times accurately every Saturday morning? 🤔

This handy little slideshow explains how our timekeeper, finish tokens and barcode scanning volunteers all work together to produce your result.

The system works brilliantly, but it also depends on everyone doing a few simple things:

1. Don’t cross the finish line twice. 2️⃣
2. Don’t duck out of the finish funnel. 🦆
3. Always take a finish token. ✅
4. If you don’t want a result, simply return your token without scanning. 🤗

Every finisher needs a time and every time needs a token. Keeping the sequence intact helps our volunteers process accurate results quickly and makes Saturday morning run smoothly for everyone.

Thanks for helping the finish funnel team work their magic! 🪄

Spring was in the air at Woden Town parkrun this week! 🌱

325 people ran, jogged and walked the course, our second week in a row back into the 300s. It definitely feels like Woden Town is starting to build into spring. 🌸

We welcomed 64 first timers (that's quite a lot!) including 20 people completing their very first parkrun (also a LOT). Welcome to the parkrun family! And 58 people recorded new Woden Town PBs. 👏

Plenty of official milestones to celebrate this week too: Archer Talbot reached 10 parkruns; Owen McLean-Smith, Thomas Mulligan, Michael Allan, Thangarai Govindasamy, Tasha Nerrie, Sammi Navfield and Thomas Jordan all reached 25; and Jamie Marshall reached 50. Claire Gao and Khanh Tahi also each reached 10 volunteer credits. 🎉

The event was made possible by 23 volunteers: Michael DALY, Steven BIRCHALL, Amelia CHICCHIO, Claire GAO, Jane GILLIS, Rob REGENT, Ania SMARSZ, Lizz A, Sarah HAYNE, Allister MCINERNEY, Abi Rose TULK, Oliver NOBLE, Khanh THAI, Peter THOMSON, William KEARNS, Michael SALTER, Emma HALPIN, Yogesh GURUNG, Ngoc Thao Linh (Leona) LE, Zoe THOMSON, Andrew DEMPSTER, Lili MOONEY and Jillian MITCHELL. Thank you to the whole hi-vis crew! 🙌

And next Saturday 12 September, spring gets even better: it’s Bring a Friend Week! Springtime is better with friends. 👯

See you next Saturday at 8am! ❤️

Springtime is better with friends! 🌱

Next Saturday is Bring a Friend Week at Woden Town parkrun. 🥳

It could be your running buddy. Your walking buddy. Your workmate. Your neighbour. Your partner. Your kids! That friend you haven’t seen for a while. They might be a parkrun regular or coming along for the very first time.
