Tonight will be one of the longest and coldest nights of the year, and with night-time temperatures dropping to -1°C in parts of ACT and the surrounding region, it will be a struggle for those sleeping on our streets.

Last night, Canberra’s community and business leaders braved the cold — and together raised over $950,000 for Vinnies homelessness services ✨

To every CEO, executive, community leader, donor, sponsor and volunteer who stepped up (and slept out) — thank you. Your commitment is helping bring warmth, dignity and practical support to those doing it tough this winter ❄️

Funds raised will go directly towards essential frontline services and emergency assistance — from keeping a roof overhead to covering groceries, medical costs and fuel when it’s needed most.

Check out this report from WIN News Canberra, sharing the powerful story of one of our Vinnies CEO Sleepout Ambassadors, Jonny Warren, from Jonny Warren Properties.

Jonny is currently on a three-day "Jonny's CEO SleepWalk" to better understand the reality of rough sleeping in our community. After reaching Queanbeyan last night, he is now on his way to Fyshwick tonight before joining us at Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout tomorrow night.

Jonny has spoken about how the experience so far has made him reflect on how many of us take for granted simply having a roof over our heads. He has also shared how emotional the journey has been, and how grateful he is for the kindness and support he has received from the community along the way.

His story highlights just how tough homelessness can be, and why support services like Vinnies are so important. Every step helps shine a light on the need for compassion, connection and practical support for people doing it tough in our region 💙

With the end of the financial year approaching, now is the time to act.

This winter, people like David are facing the harsh reality of homelessness. After experiencing a series of setbacks, David found himself without a safe place to call home—left to navigate cold nights and uncertainty on his own. With support from Vinnies, he was able to access warm meals, essential supplies, and someone who listened without judgement.

David’s story is one of many. As temperatures drop, more people in our community are turning to us for support. Through the Vinnies Winter Appeal, we’re working to ensure that no one has to face the cold alone.

It’s about building confidence, discovering potential, and creating new pathways through learning.
