We are excited to announce the call for abstracts for the 2026 South Australia State Planning Conference, reflecting this year's theme and sub-themes:

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙭𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚

South Australia is entering a new era where infrastructure, housing, climate action, technology and community ambition are converging in ways that demand new forms of leadership. The Next Convergence explores how planners can channel this accelerating shift and transform complexity into real opportunity.

With major growth, significant investment and rapid advances in digital tools reshaping practice, planners are uniquely positioned to influence resilient, connected and liveable communities.

We invite abstracts that explore these emerging opportunities across practice, policy and research, from planners and collaborators across all sectors.

To guide submissions, the call for abstracts is structured into three sub-themes:

• Infrastructure at Scale: Delivering Growth with Purpose
• Planning System Shifts: Reform, Responsibility, and the Future of Practice
• Futures Thinking: Voices, Partnerships and New Ways of Working

Regional experiences, innovations, and case studies are welcome within all streams.

Submissions close midnight Tuesday 7 April.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Friday, 14 November for a wonderful night at the 2025 SA Awards for Planning Excellence.

The standard of nominees this year was truly exceptional, and we congratulate the outstanding achievements of our award winners and commendation recipients.

12 Awards and 12 commendations were bestowed, with the Department for Housing and Urban Development featuring heavily, and City of Adelaide's Adaptive Reuse City Housing initiative (ARCHI) stealing the show, taking home an award for both the Planning Research category, as well as the Minister's Award, presented by Hon. Nick Champion MP.

The night culminated in the recognition of a great servant of PIA and the planning profession with David Bills RPIA receiving fellowship.

It truly was a celebration of real planning excellence, and we look forward to many of our winners moving through to the National Awards, to be held Wednesday, 20 May 2026 during Planning Congress in Canberra.

View the full results and judges' citations in our commemorative booklet here:https://www.planning.org.au/common/Uploaded%20files/PIA/Awards/SA/Awards%20Booklet%202025_SA.pdf

Thank you to our judging jury for all of their efforts, to our Master of Ceremonies, Elinor Walker, and of course to our wonderful sponsors, without whom this night wouldn't be possible.

World Town Planning Day may have been last week...but we celebrate good planning every day, and the planners and communities working together to make Australia’s towns and cities more liveable, resilient, and inclusive.

🎥 Watch our ‘What is Planning?’ video to see how planning impacts everyday life, from the homes we live in to the parks, streets, and neighbourhoods we love.

ICYMI, on WTPD we also released the first three stories of our new ‘Built on Planning’ series. These stories showcase how good planning enables more homes in great communities. Check them out 👉 link in bio
