A major milestone for StreetBeat! ❤️⚡

We’re proud to celebrate the completion of the StreetBeat rollout across Tuggeranong, with 21 publicly accessible defibrillators now installed throughout the region.

This achievement has been made possible through our partnership with St John Ambulance ACT, generous philanthropic support of Mat Franklin, Community Bank Canberra and Regions and the support of the ACT Government, local businesses and community organisations.

A special thank you to Capital Chemist Group’s Roger Tall and Melita Flynn, who funded the first six publicly accessible AEDs in Tuggeranong, as well as Bonnie Greene, Greg Moore from Knight Frank Asset Management and Lanyon Marketplace, and Bonython Community Hub for helping bring the program to life.

Thank you also to Laura Nuttall MLA MLA, Mark Parton MLA and ACT Government representative Brian Bathgate for joining us to celebrate this important milestone.

Cardiac arrest survivor Rory Pittman teamed up with StreetBeat to install accessible AEDs across Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra, and Googong.

After surviving a near-fatal sudden cardiac arrest while playing basketball, teenager Rory Pittman is on a mission to save lives.

Partnering with StreetBeat and St John Ambulance ACT and NSW, Rory raised vital funds to deploy publicly accessible StreetBeat Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra and Googong.
Before the day of his cardiac arrest, the possibility of 16-year-old Rory being at risk never crossed the minds of his family.

“Rory has always been a remarkably healthy kid,” says his father, Michael. “He diligently went to the gym and was rarely ever sick.”

Then came the call that changed everything: during a social basketball game, his parents received the devastating news that Rory had collapsed.

“I didn’t feel unusual or unwell in any way before the game. I can’t think of anything that might have been a warning sign,” says Rory.

Rory survived that day because of two critical factors: quick-thinking bystanders who immediately initiated CPR, and the presence of an AED that had luckily been installed at the Queanbeyan courts just three weeks prior.

“They thought it was important for the older players. No one thought about the possibility of a teenager needing it,” says Michael.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrests affect over 32,000 Australians every year, and sadly, only one in 10 survive. Rory is thankful every day to be that one in 10.

“I feel extremely lucky to have not only survived my sudden cardiac arrest but to have come through pretty much unscathed,” says Rory.

“I know that a lot of bad things could have happened, including brain damage. I’m mindful of what happened to Josh Oguns, a 15-year-old boy from Canberra, who died after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest while playing basketball just a couple of weeks before my incident. A lot of people don’t realise that it is possible for fit and healthy teenagers to suffer sudden cardiac arrest.”

Today, Rory is helping save the lives of others.

As StreetBeat's highest fundraiser in 2025, Rory raised an incredible $7,500 to help install 24/7 publicly accessible AEDs across Queanbeyan, Googong and Jerrabomberra, ensuring more communities have access to life-saving equipment when every second counts.

Yesterday, we celebrated another milestone with the installation of an AED at the Googong Netball Courts, joined by Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, General Manager Rebecca Ryan, QPRC Mayor Kenrick Wi******er and community supporters.

StreetBeat's rollout has officially crossed the border into NSW.
